However, the effect of fertilizer on fruit weight per sample and total cumulative weight of fruit per sample was declared insignificant.

Furthermore, the interaction between the type of mulch and NPK fertilizer had a significant effect on the length of the fruit, the weight of the fruit per sample, the weight of the fruit per plot, the diameter of the fruit, and the total cumulative weight of the fruit per sample. However, this interaction did not have a significant effect on plant length.

The results of this study provide a clear picture of the importance of choosing the type of mulch and appropriate fertilization to increase the growth and yield of cucumbers. Black plastic mulch, as well as combination with NPK fertilizer, gives better results than straw mulch. This can be explained by the fact that black plastic mulch can increase soil temperature and maintain moisture, which is needed in the initial growth phase of plants.

In terms of the use of fertilizer, NPK fertilizer 16:16:16 provides balanced nutrition for plants, supports the development of plants optimally. Although the dose of fertilizer 8 g/plant and 12 g/plants show better results, farmers should pay attention to the level of soil fertility and plant responses to fertilization so that there is no negative effect of excessive use of fertilizer.

The conclusion of this study confirms that the selection of mulch types and appropriate fertilizer administration can increase the growth and production of cucumber plants.
