Introduction

Weed control is a significant challenge for farmers in Indonesia, particularly in oil palm plantations. The use of herbicides is a practical and profitable solution, but repeated use of the same active ingredients can lead to weed resistance, reducing the effectiveness of control. This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of several types of herbicides, both singly and in mixture, in controlling common weeds in oil palm plantations.

Effective weed control is crucial to maintain the productivity of oil palm plants. Weeds can compete with major plants for resources such as water, nutrition, and light, which can reduce yields. Therefore, the selection of proper herbicides and effective mixture use can be a key in managing weeds and increasing production results.

Research Methodology

This research was conducted in the Sei Begerpang Garden, PT.PP. London Sumatra, Tbk, in Tanjung Morawa, North Sumatra, from September to November 2019. The research design used a random design of non-factorial groups with 12 different treatments, including:

Florpyrauxifen-Benzyl 25G B.A/Ha: A single herbicide treatment.
Florpyrauxifen-Benzyl 37.5g B.A/Ha: A single herbicide treatment.
Florpyrauxifen-Benzyl 25G B.A/Ha + Haloxyfop-P-Methyl 156G B.A/Ha: A combination of two herbicides.

Before the treatment, nine types of weeds were identified in the study area, including Asystasia Intrusa, Ageratum conyzoides, Axonopus Compessus, and others.

Results and Analysis

The results showed that the treatment with a combination of aminopyralids 153G B.A/Ha and Haloxyfop-P-Methyl 156G B.A/Ha produced the highest percentage of mortality in 14 days after the application (HSA) and 30 HSA. Conversely, the aminophyllic treatment of 128G b.A/ha shows the lowest results in terms of weed mortality. In terms of dry weight, the treatment of Florpyrauxifen-Benzyl 25G B.A/Ha gives the best results, while the combination of aminophyralid 128g b.a/ha + haloxyfop-p-methyl 156g b.a/ha produces the lowest dry weight.
