Introduction

Cassava is one of the most widely cultivated crops in the world, providing a vital source of food and income for millions of people. However, the success rate of cassava cultivation can be influenced by various factors, including the administration of growth regulators and the composition of planting media. In this study, we aim to investigate the impact of these factors on the growth and success rate of mucibat cassava seedlings.

Background

Cassava is a tropical crop that requires specific conditions to grow and thrive. The administration of growth regulators, such as ZPT, can stimulate plant growth and increase yields. However, the optimal concentration and type of growth regulator can vary depending on the specific crop and growing conditions. Similarly, the composition of planting media can also affect plant growth and success rate. A well-balanced planting media can provide the necessary nutrients and water for optimal plant growth.

Methodology

This study was conducted in the Glasshouse of the Faculty of Agriculture, University of North Sumatra (USU) during the period February to April 2016. The method used was a random design of factorial groups with three replications, consisting of two main factors: the source of growth regulators and the composition of planting media.

The first factor is a source of growth regulators consisting of four levels, namely without administration of ZPT (P0), 50% coconut water (P1), 100% shallot extract (P2), and IAA 0.05%. While the second factor is a planting media consisting of three compositions: goat manure, top soil, and rice husk in a ratio of 3: 1: 1 (m1), 2: 1: 2 (m2), and 1: 1: 1 (m3).

Parameters Observed

The parameters observed in this study include the percentage of success, the speed of the shoots, the length of the shoot, the diameter of the shoots, the number of leaves, the number of roots, the root wet weight, the root dry weight, and the root volume.

Results

The results showed that the source of regulator growth significantly affected the speed of germination. The best treatment is found at a 50% coconut water level, which shows high effectiveness in increasing shoot growth. In addition, the composition of the planting media also has a significant effect on the speed of germination and length of the shoots. The most optimal composition of planting media is goat dung, top soil, and rice husk with a ratio of 3: 1: 1 (m1).

The interaction between the source of growth regulators and the composition of the planting media has a significant effect on the percentage parameter of success, the diameter of the shoots, and the number of leaves. The best treatment combination consists of 100% shallot extract, 50% coconut water, and planting media composition 3: 1: 1.

The results of this study highlight the importance of selecting the right growth regulators and planting media composition to increase the success and growth of mucibat cassava seeds.
