The Influence of Knowledge and Motivation on Safety on Work Accidents with Work Compliance as Intervening Variables at PT Wijaya Karya Project Division 1
Introduction

Factors that influence work accidents include knowledge and motivation about safety and work compliance. This study aims to explore the effect of knowledge and motivation on work accidents with work compliance as intervening variables at PT Wijaya Karya Project Division 1.
Background
The construction industry is characterized by high-risk activities, such as working at heights, operating heavy machinery, and handling hazardous materials. These activities increase the likelihood of accidents, injuries, and fatalities. According to the International Labour Organization (ILO), the construction industry accounts for 36% of all work-related fatalities worldwide. The high accident rates in the construction industry are attributed to various factors, including lack of knowledge and motivation about safety, inadequate work compliance, and poor working conditions.
Research Methodology
This study employed a descriptive research design with a causal approach. The sample consisted of 100 employees from the Division 1 project at PT Wijaya Karya. The data were collected using a questionnaire that measured knowledge and motivation about safety, work compliance, and work accidents. The data were analyzed using Partial Least Square Structural Model (PLS-PM) to examine the relationships between the variables.
Research Findings
The results of this study showed that knowledge and motivation about safety had a positive and significant influence on work compliance. This suggests that employees who possess knowledge and motivation about safety are more likely to comply with established safety procedures and regulations. On the other hand, work compliance had a positive and significant effect on work accidents. This implies that employees who comply with safety procedures and regulations are less likely to experience work accidents.
However, the results also showed that knowledge about safety did not have a significant direct influence on work accidents. Instead, knowledge about safety had an indirect influence on work accidents through work compliance. This suggests that knowledge about safety is essential for employees to comply with safety procedures and regulations, which in turn reduces the risk of work accidents.
Motivation for Safety
The results also showed that motivation for safety had a positive and significant influence on work accidents, both directly and indirectly through work compliance. This suggests that employees who are motivated to carry out safety practices are less likely to experience work accidents. This finding underscores the importance of motivation in promoting safety behaviors among employees.
