Akne Vulgaris usually starts to appear at the age of 14 to 17 years for women and 16 to 19 years for men. One of the factors that can contribute to the emergence of Akne is obesity, which is measured using the Body Mass Index (BMI). Obesity or overweight can cause peripheral hyperandrogen, which can further increase sebum production and contribute to the development of more severe acne vulgaris. However, until now, the relationship between IMT and the severity of Akne Vulgaris is still a debate among researchers.

The purpose of this study is to analyze the relationship between the Body Mass Index (IMT) with the severity of the Akne Vulgaris in students at SMA Negeri 2 Binjai. This study uses an analytic design with the cross-sectional method. Data collection was carried out with Consecutive Sampling technique, involving 93 students as a sample. Data collected includes measuring height, weight, and assessment of the severity of the vulgaris acne lesion. After the data is collected, the analysis is carried out by the univariate and bivariate methods. The Chi-Square statistical test is used to evaluate the relationship between IMT and the severity of the Akne Vulgaris, with a significant criterion if the P value is below 0.05.

From the results of the study, the majority of degrees of the severity of Akne Vulgaris are classified as light, which is 59.1%. It was found that the number of women (50.5%) who experienced akne vulgaris more than men (49.5%). The age group most often diagnosed with akne vulgaris is a teenager aged 15-16 years with a prevalence of 37.6% each for men and 28.6% for women. In addition, most samples show BMI which is below the normal range, which is 83.9%. Further analysis shows that there is no significant relationship between IMT and the severity of the Akne Vulgaris, with a p-value greater than 0.05.

This study concluded that there was no significant relationship between the Body Mass Index (IMT) with the severity of the Akne Vulgaris in students at SMA Negeri 2 Binjai.
