The Influence of Locus of Control, Performance, Turnover Intention, and Organizational Commitment on Dysfunctional Audit Behavior at BPK RI Auditor Representatives of North Sumatra Province

Introduction

In the audit world, dysfunctional behavior can disrupt the integrity and effectiveness of an institution, including at the Indonesian Supreme Audit Agency (BPK) Representative of North Sumatra Province. This study aims to examine the effect of locus of control, performance, turnover intentions, and organizational commitment to the behavior of dysfunctional audits in auditors. With a population of 188 auditors, this study uses saturation sampling techniques, where all members of the population are used as research samples. To analyze data, multiple linear regression analysis techniques are used.

Dysfunctional audit behavior can have severe consequences, including damage to the institution's reputation, loss of public trust, and financial losses. Therefore, it is essential to identify the factors that contribute to this behavior and develop strategies to prevent it. This study focuses on the role of locus of control, performance, turnover intentions, and organizational commitment in shaping the behavior of dysfunctional audits in auditors.

Locus of Control and Dysfunctional Audit Behavior

Locus of control refers to the extent to which individuals feel that they have control over events that affect their lives. Auditors with internal locus of control tend to believe that their own actions can affect work results. Nevertheless, the results of this study indicate that the locus of control has no significant effect on dysfunctional behavior. This can be caused by various factors, such as environmental pressures or organizational policies that do not support.

Auditor Performance

Auditor performance is an important indicator in determining the quality of the audit carried out. However, in the context of this study, auditor performance also has no significant influence on dysfunctional behavior. The cause may lie in the internal policy of the organization that might not encourage auditors to show their best performance, so they might do unethical behavior.

Turnover's Intention

Turnover's intention reflects the auditor's desire to leave their work. This study found that turnover intentions had no significant effect on audit dysfunctional behavior. This shows that although the auditor may have the desire to change workplaces, it does not necessarily make them involved in unethical audit behavior.

Organizational Commitment

On the other hand, organizational commitment is proven to have a positive and significant influence on the ethical behavior of the auditor. Auditors who have a high commitment to the organization tend to better maintain integrity and conduct audits with full responsibility. This shows the importance of creating a work environment that supports and strengthens auditor's commitment to organizational values.

The Role of Organizational Commitment in Reducing Dysfunctional Behavior

Organizational commitment is a critical factor in reducing dysfunctional behavior. Auditors who are committed to the organization are more likely to maintain integrity and conduct audits with full responsibility. Overall, this study provides an important insight into the factors that influence the behavior of dysfunctional audit in the BPK RI auditor representative of the North Sumatra Province. This study shows that organizational commitment is the key in reducing dysfunctional behavior, while locus of control, performance, and turnover intentions do not have a significant impact.
