Variation of Physical and Physiological Properties of Malapari Seedlings (Pongamia Pinnata (L.) Pierre) Based on a Combination of Media Forms and NPK Doses

Introduction

Malapari (Pongamia Pinnata) is a plant species that has gained significant attention in recent years due to its potential in land management, particularly as a biofuel-producing plant. However, the production of quality seeds is a crucial step in the cultivation of this plant. In this study, we aimed to evaluate the physical and physiological properties of Malapari seedlings based on a combination of media forms and NPK doses. The study was conducted in Singosari Village, Lampung Province, from April to August 2023.

Research Methodology

The study employed a randomized complete design with three replications. The parameters observed in this study included physical and physiological properties. For physical properties, measured height, diameter, fresh biomass, and dry biomass, while physiological properties included chlorophyll content A, chlorophyll B, and total chlorophyll. The analysis of variance showed a significant difference in seed height, while for the diameter of seeds, fresh biomass, dry biomass, and other physiological properties did not show significant differences.

Main Findings

The Duncan test results showed that the treatment of M0P2, which is a combination of upper soil media: compost (1: 1), gave the best results in high growth in seedling. Analysis of the upper macro element showed that the element N (nitrogen) had a very low value. Therefore, the addition of compost that has a higher N content in the composition of the planting media can increase the presence of the N element to support the growth of Malapari seedling.
