Atopic dermatitis is a chronic skin inflammatory disease characterized by prolonged itching and reddish skin rashes. This disease is generally more susceptible to infants and children. Among the various factors that influence the incidence of atopic dermatitis, one of the important is personal hygiene or personal hygiene. Personal hygiene refers to the practice of someone to maintain health by protecting themselves and the environment clean. This factor has a significant influence on the quality of life in the household, which in turn can affect the health of children's skin.

By practicing good personal hygiene, individuals can reduce the risk of developing skin infections and diseases, including atopic dermatitis. This includes activities such as washing hands regularly, bathing regularly, and maintaining cleanliness of clothing. In addition, environmental cleanliness, including household sanitation and waste management, is also very influential on the general health of children.

The Relationship Between Personal Hygiene and Cleanliness Level in Households with Atopic Dermatitis Events

The purpose of this study is to determine the relationship between personal hygiene and the level of cleanliness in the household with the incidence of atopic dermatitis in children in Private Pertiwi Elementary School in Medan. This study uses an observational analytic design with a cross-sectional approach. Data obtained directly through a questionnaire and analyzed using the SPSS program with Chi Square testing at the level of significance P = 0.05.

The Results of the Study

The results showed that of 71 respondents, 28 children (39.4%) experienced atopic dermatitis, with a higher proportion of women than men, each of 19 children (67.9%) and 9 children (32.1 %). Nevertheless, the level of personal hygiene and household hygiene as a whole is categorized well, which shows that there are other factors that can contribute to the incidence of atopic dermatitis.

The conclusion of this study indicates that there is a significant relationship between personal hygiene and cleanliness in the household with the incidence of atopic dermatitis in children. This shows the importance of increasing awareness of personal hygiene and the environment as a precaution of this disease.
