Introduction

In today's fast-paced and competitive business environment, organizations are constantly seeking ways to improve their performance and achieve their goals. One of the key factors that can contribute to an organization's success is the commitment and discipline of its employees. This study aims to investigate the effect of organizational commitment and work discipline on the work performance of PDAM Tirtanadi employees in Medan City Center. By understanding the relationship between these factors, organizations can develop strategies to improve employee performance and achieve their goals.

Background

PDAM Tirtanadi is a water utility company that provides essential services to the people of Medan City Center. As a public service provider, PDAM Tirtanadi plays a critical role in ensuring the health and well-being of the community. However, like many organizations, PDAM Tirtanadi faces challenges in maintaining high levels of employee performance and productivity. This study aims to contribute to the body of knowledge on organizational commitment and work discipline by examining their impact on employee performance in a public service organization.

Methodology

This study employed a descriptive quantitative approach to investigate the effect of organizational commitment and work discipline on the work performance of PDAM Tirtanadi employees in Medan City Center. A total of 79 employees were selected using a purposive sampling technique. Data was collected through a questionnaire and analyzed using multiple regression analysis with a significance level of 5% (0.05).

Results

The results of this study showed that simultaneously, organizational commitment and work discipline had a positive and significant influence on work performance. The F value of 58,139 was greater than the value of F Table 2.6, indicating a significant relationship between the independent variables and work performance. Partially, both organizational commitment and work discipline also showed positive and significant influence on work performance. The T value of the organizational commitment variable (3,790) and the work discipline variable (7,067) was greater than the value of t table (1,99167), indicating a significant relationship between each variable and work performance.

Adjusted R Square Value

The Adjusted R Square value obtained from the results of the Determination Coefficient Test (R2) for work performance was 0.594, which shows that 59.4% of the variety of work performance can be explained by the independent variables of organizational commitment and work discipline. The remaining 40.6% is explained by other variables that are not examined in this study.
