Introduction

Dental caries is a widespread oral health problem that often requires restoration to restore the function and aesthetic of the affected tooth. One of the restoration materials that is widely used today is composite resin, which is chosen because of its ability to offer high aesthetic quality and good adhesion to dental structure. However, in micro structures, composite resins often experience micro-leakage problems caused by polymerization shrinkage. In this case, the use of lining is important to reduce this micro leak by providing additional layers that can absorb loads and reduce pressure between resin and tooth structure.

The sample used in this study was premolar teeth that had been prepared in accordance with the conventional class II cavity design. The sample is then divided into four groups based on the lining technique and the matrix system used. After the preparation process, the sample is soaked in saline for 24 hours, then the thermocycling is carried out to simulate changes in the temperature that occurs in the mouth. Furthermore, the sample was soaked in a 2% methylene blue solution for 24 hours to facilitate the measurement of micro leak penetration. Measurement is done by cutting samples mesio-decent and analyzing dyes penetration under the stereomicroscope with an enlargement of 20x. In addition, more in-depth observations were made using Electron Microscope (SEM) scanning to evaluate the details of micro leakage.

Results

The results of statistical analysis conducted using Kruskal-Wallis Test showed that there was no significant difference (P> 0.05) in a micro leak between the use of Lining RMGIC and Biodentine. In addition, the use of the matrix system both Tofflemire and V3 Ring also does not show a significant difference (P> 0.05) in the context of micro leakage. This finding confirms that although there are different lining and matrix options, both have an important role in the restoration of class II composite resin.

The conclusion of this study is that both biodentine and RMGIC can be used as lining in the restoration of class II composite resin without significant differences in micro leaks. The use of the matrix system also does not have a different impact on micro leaks. This provides an important insight for clinical practices, shows that the dentist can choose the appropriate type of lining and matrix based on aesthetic considerations and ease of use without worrying about significant effects on micro leaks.
