Introduction

This study aims to examine the effect of several internal factors, namely financial distress, independent commissioner, auditor independence, institutional ownership, and audit committee, on the integrity of financial statements in manufacturing companies listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX) during the 2017-2019 period.

This study uses annual report data from 49 manufacturing companies listed on the IDX, selected by the purposive sampling method of a total of 156 manufacturing companies. Data was collected from the official website of the IDX (www.idx.co.id) and analyzed using statistical software. The study employs multiple linear regression analysis to examine the effect of internal factors on the integrity of financial statements.

Research Findings

The results of this study show that financial distress has a negative and significant influence on the integrity of financial statements. This indicates that companies that experience financial difficulties tend to have a higher risk of manipulating financial statements to cover their actual conditions. This finding is consistent with previous studies that have shown that financial distress can lead to accounting manipulation.

Audit Committee, as an internal supervisory organ, also has a negative and significant influence on the integrity of financial statements. This means that the more active and independent audit committee in carrying out its functions, the lower the potential of manipulation of financial statements. This finding is consistent with previous studies that have shown the importance of audit committees in maintaining the integrity of financial statements.

Auditor's Independence also proven to have a negative and significant effect on the integrity of financial statements. This shows that independent and professional auditors can play an important role in detecting and preventing violations of the integrity of financial statements. Conversely, Independent Commissioner and Institutional Ownership do not have a significant influence on the integrity of financial statements.
