Introduction

Improving employee performance is the key to the success of an organization. In today's competitive business environment, organizations are constantly seeking ways to enhance employee productivity and motivation. One approach to achieving this goal is by understanding the needs of employees and creating a work environment that meets those needs. This study examines the effect of self-actualization needs, appreciation needs, and social needs on employee work performance at the Medan City Investment Agency.

The Importance of Employee Needs in the Workplace

Employee needs are a crucial aspect of human resource management. Self-actualization needs, appreciation needs, and social needs are three fundamental needs that employees require to perform optimally in the workplace. Self-actualization needs refer to the need for employees to realize their full potential and achieve personal growth. Appreciation needs refer to the need for employees to receive recognition and rewards for their contributions to the organization. Social needs refer to the need for employees to feel connected and integrated with their colleagues and the organization as a whole.

Methodology

This study uses a descriptive survey method with a structured questionnaire and personal observation as a data collection tool. The research subjects include all employees of the Medan City Investment Agency (56 people) with census sampling methods. The validity of the research instrument uses confirmation factor analysis, while the reliability is tested with Cronbach Alpha. Multiple Regression Analysis (F test and T test) is used to test the hypothesis of the influence of self-actualization, appreciation, and social needs on employee performance.

Results

The results of the study show that the need for self-actualization and social actualization has a significant positive influence on employee performance. The need for appreciation also has a positive but not significant effect when tested separately. However, when tested simultaneously, the three variables showed a significant positive influence, showing that meeting the needs of self-actualization, appreciation, and social needs improve employee performance in the Medan City Investment Agency.

Self-Actualization Needs

The results of the study show that employees who feel their actualization needs are met tend to have high motivation to develop their potential and achieve optimal work performance. They are more enthusiastic in carrying out their duties and finding ways to continue to develop. Self-actualization needs are essential for employees to realize their full potential and achieve personal growth.

Appreciation Needs

Although not significant when tested separately, the need for appreciation remains an important factor. The award given by the organization can be in the form of appreciation, promotion, or bonus. It is essential for the organization to give a fair and proportional appreciation so that employees feel valued and motivated to achieve the targets set.

Social Needs

Social needs have a significant influence on employee performance. Employees who feel integrated in the team and have a positive interpersonal relationship tend to be more productive. A sense of togetherness and support from coworkers increases morale and helps them overcome challenges at work.
