Analysis of the Effect of Profitability, Asset Structure, Free Cash Flow, and Company Size on Debt Policy with Company Value as a Moderation Variable in Manufacturing Companies Listed on the IDX 2016-2021

Introduction

In the business world, especially in the manufacturing sector, companies often face challenges in financial management and strategic decision making related to debt policy. This study aims to analyze the effect of profitability, asset structure, free cash flow, and company size on debt policy, with company value as a moderation variable. This study was conducted on 51 companies listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX) during the 2016 to 2021 period, with data analysis using multiple linear regression methods through Stata software.

The Importance of Debt Policy in Manufacturing Companies

Debt policy is a crucial aspect of financial management in manufacturing companies. It involves the use of debt financing to fund business operations, expansion, and investment. The results of further analysis show that the company's value can function as a moderation variable in the relationship between these factors and debt policy. High company value can increase the effect of profitability, asset structure, free cash flow, and company size on debt policy. In other words, when a company has good value in the eyes of the market, this can strengthen their position in getting better and bigger debt. This is because company value provides a sense of security and confidence for lenders, making it easier for companies to access debt financing.

Conclusion

From the results of this study, it can be concluded that profitability, asset structure, and free cash flow significantly affect the debt policy of manufacturing companies listed on the IDX. Although the company's size has a positive influence, the effect is not significant. In addition, company value is proven to play an important role as a moderation in the relationship between these factors and debt policy. This study provides valuable insight for company managers in formulating appropriate financial management strategies, as well as contributing to the development of theory in the company's finances.

Based on the findings of this study, the following recommendations can be made:
