Introduction

Data classification using the K-Nearest Neighbor (KNN) algorithm has become a common practice in various fields of research. The KNN algorithm has shown satisfactory performance in classification results. However, one of the causes of decreased accuracy in data classification is the presence of irrelevant attributes. Therefore, increasing accuracy in the KNN algorithm can be achieved by eliminating attributes that have similarities, which in turn will make the calculation process faster and more efficient.

The Importance of Attribute Selection

Attribute selection is a crucial step in ensuring that the data used in classification is the most relevant data. Irrelevant attributes can contribute noise that interferes with the classification process. Therefore, attribute selection is an important step to ensure that the data used in classification is the most relevant data. In attribute selection using Similarity Distance Measures, we do an analysis of how much similarity between attributes and target data. In this way, we can choose more significant attributes and reduce attributes that are less contributing.

Similarity Distance Measures is a proposed method in this study to remove similar attributes. The method considers the size of the similarity between attributes and target data. In this study, attribute selection was carried out using some distance calculations namely Euclidean, Manhattan, Minkowski, Cosine, and Correlation. Each distance of distance has advantages and disadvantages, so that the right selection can have a big impact on accuracy.

Euclidean distance is a common distance calculation used in attribute selection. It calculates the distance between two points in a multi-dimensional space. The Euclidean distance formula is:

Results and Discussion

The results of the study showed a significant increase in classification accuracy. The average accuracy of the KNN algorithm using attribute selection in the three datasets tested reaches 88,804%. For different types of distance calculations, the results of the accuracy obtained also vary. KNN with an Euclidean distance produces an accuracy of 89,120%, KNN-Manhattan reaches 89,161%, KNN-Minkowski gets 89,120%, KNN-Cosine records 89,134%, and the highest is KNN-Correlation with an accuracy reaching 89,567%.

The results of the study highlight the importance of attribute selection in increasing accuracy in the KNN algorithm. The use of various distance calculations provides flexibility to select the method that best suits the characteristics of the data possessed. Each distance of distance has advantages and disadvantages, so that the right selection can have a big impact on accuracy.

In conclusion, the application of the KNN algorithm can be more optimized by selecting the most relevant attributes.
