Introduction

Assessing cognitive function in old age is crucial to prevent and manage cognitive disorders that are often experienced by the elderly. Methodology

This study uses a cross-sectional design involving more than 80 subjects aged 60 years or more. The research subjects came from UPT Social Services Elderly and Children of Toddler Binjai-Medan and Nursing Homes Karya Kasih Kasih Medan. Each subject underwent an examination using CPS, MMSE, and GPCOG. The data obtained were analyzed to determine the diagnostic value of each tool.

Results

The results showed that the diagnostic value for CPS with a score of 2 or more showed a sensitivity of 0.84 and specificity of 0.88. In other words, CPS is able to detect around 84% of people with cognitive disorders and 88% of people without cognitive disorders. Predictive positive value (PPV) is 0.90 and the predictive negative value (NPV) is 0.82, showing that CPS is quite accurate in identifying cognitive disorders. Meanwhile, the diagnostic value for MMSE with a score of 23 or less shows a higher sensitivity, which is 0.91, and specificity of 0.72. PPV MMSE is 0.80 and NPV 0.86.

Comparison of Diagnostic Accuracy

The results showed that there is no significant difference in the accuracy between CPS and MMSE in detecting cognitive function disorders (p = 0.32). This shows that the two assessment tools can be used interchangeably to assess cognitive function in old age.

Based on the results obtained, it is essential for medical personnel to understand the strengths and weaknesses of each tool to conduct a better assessment. The selection of appropriate assessment tools can contribute to a more accurate diagnosis and more effective intervention to improve the quality of life of the elderly.
