Abstract

In today's digital era, companies are increasingly vulnerable to cyber attacks, which can have a significant impact on their reputation. This study aims to investigate the effect of Telkomsel website hacking on the company's reputation among students of the University of North Sumatra. Using a correlational study design, this research examines the relationship between website hacking and company reputation, and provides insights into the importance of maintaining cyber security to protect a company's reputation.

Introduction

Website hacking has become a significant concern for companies in the digital age. Not only can it compromise sensitive information, but it can also damage a company's reputation and erode consumer trust. In the case of Telkomsel, a leading telecommunications company in Indonesia, website hacking can have a significant impact on its reputation among students of the University of North Sumatra.

Company reputation is a critical aspect of a company's success. It can influence consumer behavior, brand image, and ultimately, a company's bottom line. In today's digital era, where information is readily available, a company's reputation can be easily damaged by a single incident of website hacking.

Research Methodology

This study used a correlational study design to investigate the relationship between website hacking and company reputation. The population of this study totaled 1,645 people, with the selection of samples carried out using proportional stratified sampling techniques, purposive sampling, and accidental sampling. The research sample consisted of 94 respondents determined based on the Taro Yamane formula with a precision rate of 10% and a confidence level of 90%.

Data Collection

Data collection was carried out through two methods, namely field research with structured interviews and literature research. For data analysis, researchers used descriptive analysis techniques, cross table analysis, and hypothesis testing with the formula for the Coefficient of Correlation of the Rank Order by Spearman. All of these analyzes were carried out using SPSS 24.0 statistical software.

Research Result

The analysis shows that the significance value of H0 is 0,000, which is smaller than 0.05, which means H0 is rejected. This shows a significant relationship between the hacking of the Telkomsel website and the company's reputation among students of the University of North Sumatra. This illustrates that hacking incidents not only have an impact on the company's operational technical aspects, but also affect public perceptions, especially among the young generation who are active in the digital world.

Analysis and Implications

From the results of this study, it can be concluded that the hacking of the website has a considerable impact on the company's reputation. In the context of Telkomsel, hacking can reduce consumer trust, reduce brand image, and ultimately affect company relations with customers and other stakeholders.

Companies need to take proactive steps in managing their reputation, especially in the digital era that is very vulnerable to cyber attacks. These steps include improving information security systems, education for employees and users, as well as transparency in handling security incidents.

In conclusion, this research gives a clear picture of the importance of maintaining cyber security to protect the company's reputation. Thus, companies such as Telkomsel must continue to invest in technology and communication strategies that can reduce the negative impacts of hacking and increase public confidence in their image.

The company should educate its employees and users on the importance of cyber security and how to prevent hacking incidents.
Telkomsel should be transparent in handling security incidents and provide regular updates to its customers and stakeholders.
The company should invest in communication strategies that can reduce the negative impacts of hacking and increase public confidence in its image.
