The Influence of National Crude Oil Production and World Crude Oil Consumption on National Revenue from the Oil and Gas Sector

Introduction

Every country needs funds to finance development in various fields, both economy and non-economic. One of the sources of Indonesian government income used to fund development comes from the oil and gas sector (oil and gas). Income from this sector has even become one of the main sources in the Indonesian government budget, apart from the tax sector. Crude oil is one of Indonesia's natural resources that has high economic value and becomes an exclusive commodity in exports. The oil and gas sector plays a crucial role in the Indonesian economy, and understanding the factors that influence its revenue is essential for sustainable economic development.

Background

Crude oil is a mixture of hydrocarbons in the liquid phase in natural underground reservoirs and remains in liquid form at the atmospheric pressure after passing through the surface separation facility. This study aims to analyze the effect of the amount of national crude oil production and world crude oil consumption on national revenue from the oil and gas sector. In the regression model, the independent variable consists of the amount of national crude oil production and the amount of world crude oil consumption, while the dependent variable is national revenue from the oil and gas sector.

Methodology

The data used in this study was a form of time series from 1989 to 2003. The results of the regression show that the amount of national crude oil production has an insignificant influence on national revenue from the oil and gas sector, so the null hypothesis (H0) is accepted. On the other hand, the amount of world crude oil consumption is proven to have a significant influence on national revenue from the oil and gas sector, so that alternative hypotheses (ha) are accepted.

Analysis of the Impact of Production and Consumption

From the results of the study, it was clear that the amount of national crude oil production did not have a significant impact on the acceptance of the oil and gas sector. This can be caused by several factors, such as government policies that may be less effective in optimizing income from domestic crude oil production. In addition, there is fluctuations in world oil prices that can make income from domestic production become unstable. The lack of significant impact of domestic production on national revenue highlights the need for the government to focus on increasing efficiency and optimizing production.

Conversely, the significant influence of world crude oil consumption shows that global demand for crude oil can be a major driving factor for the income of the Indonesian oil and gas sector. When world consumption increases, oil prices tend to rise, thus having a positive impact on state revenue from this sector. In this context, Indonesia must pay attention to the trends and needs of the global market to maximize revenue from the oil and gas sector. The global demand for crude oil is a key driver of national revenue, and understanding this trend is essential for sustainable economic development.
