The Effect of Hydrolysis of Several Oils on Increased Stamina of Mice (Mus Musculus)

Research on the effect of hydrolysis of several types of oil on increased stamina of mice (Mus musculus) has been carried out with a focus on coconut oil, palm oil, and corn oil. The study aims to assess the impact of acute consumption of oil that has been hydrolyzed on the capacity of swimming mice. In this study, the products used consisted of VCO® coconut oil (Virgin Coconut Oil), Bimoli® palm oil, and mazola® corn oil. The hydrolysis process is carried out using lipase enzymes from Rhizomucor Miehei, which is known to be effective in decomposing triglycerides.

Coconut oil, which is rich in moderate chain fatty acids and is dominated by medium chain triglycerides (MCT), offers advantages in terms of absorption and metabolism of energy that are not saturated. This makes MCT more effective in increasing metabolism and stamina, especially in physical contexts that require high durability such as swimming. The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of hydrolysis of several types of oil on increased stamina of mice.

The study used mice (Mus musculus) as the subject of research. Before treatment, mice are acclimatized and through motor testing to ensure their feasibility as the subject of research. Mice are divided into eleven groups, each consisting of five, and each group receives treatment with a variety of doses from 0.1 ml to 0.4 ml for every 20 grams of body weight. Negative control is given 1% distilled water, while positive control is given a caffeine solution at a dose of 13 mg/kg body weight. After the treatment, the mice were tested for swimming resistance in the aquarium to measure the duration to fatigue, which became an indicator of their swimming capacity.

The results showed that the higher the dose of oil hydrolysis given, the longer the time swimming recorded and the better stamina mice. In particular, at a dose of 0.4 ml/20 g body weight, the effect produced by corn oil does not differ significantly from the effect of coconut oil. This finding shows that acute consumption of coconut oil and corn oil is more effective in increasing the capacity of stamina mice compared to palm oil.

Further analysis shows that the mechanism of action of MCT in increasing stamina may be related to its ability to immediately be available as an energy source. MCT is more quickly processed by the liver and does not require carnitin transporters, which accelerate the decomposition and utilization of energy. This makes it a better choice in improving physical performance, especially in activities that rely on endurance such as swimming.

In conclusion, this study confirms that the hydrolysis of coconut oil and corn oil has a significant positive impact on mice stamina, compared to palm oil. This discovery can be a reference for the development of oil-based supplements that can improve sports performance in animals and perhaps in humans, which should be explored further in future research.
