Introduction

Breast cancer is one of the most common types of cancer in women, and early detection is the key to increasing healing rates. One effective method for detecting breast cancer early is awareness, also known as self-examination or check-your-own-breasts. However, there are still many women, especially young women, who do not understand and apply this method correctly. This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of the simulation method in increasing the knowledge and attitudes of young women about early detection of breast cancer in SMAN 1 and SMA Citra Harapan Percut Sei Tuan Deli Serdang Regency.

Background

Breast cancer is a major health concern worldwide, and early detection is crucial in increasing the chances of healing and reducing the risk of death. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), breast cancer is the most common type of cancer in women, accounting for 11.7% of all new cancer cases worldwide. In Indonesia, breast cancer is the second most common type of cancer in women, accounting for 10.3% of all new cancer cases.

Methodology

This study uses a Quasi experimental design with Non Equivalent Control Group. A total of 80 young women (40 in the treatment group and 40 in the control group) became the subject of research. The treatment group received a simulation method intervention, which included a series of lectures, demonstrations, and hands-on practice on how to perform a self-examination. The control group did not receive any intervention.

Results

The results of this study showed that the simulation method was effective in increasing the knowledge and attitudes of young women about early detection of breast cancer. The treatment group that followed the simulation showed a significant difference in knowledge (p = 0.008) and attitude (p = 0.046) before and after following the intervention. Meanwhile, the control group did not show significant differences in knowledge and attitudes about early detection of breast cancer.

Discussion

The results of this study confirmed the importance of effective education and training, such as simulation methods, to increase the knowledge and attitudes of young women about early detection of breast cancer. By understanding and applying a regular basis, young women can detect the early signs of breast cancer from an early age. This can increase the chances of healing and reduce the risk of death from breast cancer.

Recommendations

Based on the results of this study, the following recommendations are made to increase awareness of awareness:

Use social media to spread information and education about realizing it easily and interesting. This can be done by creating social media campaigns, where health professionals can share information and resources on breast cancer awareness.

Conclusion

By increasing the knowledge and attitudes of young women towards consciousness, we can jointly reduce the death rate of breast cancer and improve the quality of life of women in the future. The simulation method is an effective way to increase knowledge and attitudes about early detection of breast cancer, and it should be integrated into school curricula, community education programs, and social media campaigns.

Limitations

This study has several limitations. Firstly, the sample size was relatively small, and the study was conducted in a specific region. Secondly, the study only focused on young women, and the results may not be generalizable to other age groups. Finally, the study only measured knowledge and attitudes, and did not measure the actual behavior of the participants.

Future studies should aim to replicate this study in different regions and populations.
