The average GI value in people with periodontitis with metabolic syndrome was higher (GI = 1.27) compared to those who did not experience metabolic syndrome (GI = 1.15). Similarly, the average PBI value in people with periodontitis with metabolic syndrome was also higher (PBI = 1.66) compared to subjects without metabolic syndrome.

Conclusion

The results of this study demonstrate that metabolic syndrome contributes to higher gum inflammatory levels in people with periodontitis. This highlights the importance of managing metabolic syndrome not only for general health but also for oral health. Therefore, awareness of the relationship between oral health and risk factors for metabolic syndrome needs to be improved, as well as the importance of conducting dental health checks on a regular basis.
