One common chronic disease is hypertension, or better known as high blood pressure. This condition is one of the health problems that continues to increase every year. Facing the fact that chronic diseases such as hypertension require long-term treatment, many patients who suffer losses both physically and psychologically. This has the potential to reduce their level of compliance in undergoing treatment. This study aims to investigate the effect of health self-efficacy on compliance with taking medication in hypertensive patients.

Health self-efficacy is a person's belief in his ability to take the actions needed to maintain health. It is a crucial factor in determining an individual's ability to manage their health and adhere to treatment plans. More specifically, from the sports sub-scale, it was found that the health self-efficacy contributed positively at 16% to compliance, while the dietary sub-scale showed a positive effect of 23.9%. This indicates that the higher the level of patient confidence in undergoing physical activity and applying a healthy diet, the higher their compliance in taking drugs.

With the implementation of the two simultaneously, patients are expected to show better compliance. Communication that focuses on patients from medical personnel is also very important to build good relationships and encourage patients' motivation in undergoing treatment.
