Analysis of Factors Affecting Work Productivity of Palm Oil Harvesting Employees at PT. Perkebunan Nusantara II

The palm oil industry is one of the largest industries in Indonesia, with PT. Perkebunan Nusantara II being one of the leading companies in this sector. The company's palm oil harvesting employees play a crucial role in the production process, and their work productivity has a direct impact on the company's overall performance. However, the work productivity of these employees has been relatively low, which has raised concerns about the factors affecting their performance. This study aims to analyze the effect of several factors on the work productivity of palm oil harvesters at PT. Nusantara II plantation, specifically in the Limau Mungkur Garden located in Lau Barus Baru Village, STM Hilir District, Deli Serdang Regency.

This study employed a quantitative approach using multiple linear regression analysis with the help of SPSS 17.0 software. The sampling technique applied was the census method, with a total sample of 33 palm oil harvesters from the Limau Mungkur garden. The location of the study was determined purposively, considering the relevance and purpose of the study. The factors examined in this study include age, duration of education, number of dependents, salaries, and premiums.

The results of the study showed that the work productivity of oil palm harvesters is relatively low, with an average productivity of 670.09 kg/HKP/month. This indicates that employee performance in the field has not reached the maximum expected potential. Further analysis revealed that factors such as the length of formal education, the number of dependents, and salaries do not have a significant effect on work productivity. Conversely, age and premium factors show a significant effect on productivity.

The age factor can be interpreted as work experience and physical condition of employees that can affect the way they do the work. Older employees may have better experience and better understand efficient techniques in harvesting oil palm. However, on the other hand, the physical condition of employees is also very important, where younger employees may have better stamina to do physical work. This suggests that the company should consider the age factor when assigning tasks and providing training to employees.

Meanwhile, the premiums or incentives given to employees can function as motivators. If employees get adequate rewards, they tend to work harder and more productively. This shows that the payroll system and incentives applied by the company play a major role in increasing employee productivity. The company should consider revising its premium system to provide more incentives to employees, which can lead to improved productivity.

Overall, this study shows that there are several factors that influence the work productivity of oil palm harvesters at PT. Perkebunan Nusantara II Kebun Limau Mungkur. To increase productivity, the company should consider the age and premium system that applies, as well as analyzing more in other factors that may also contribute to employee performance. Further research is recommended to identify more effective strategies in increasing work productivity in this sector.

Based on the findings of this study, the following recommendations are made:

Considering the age factor: The company should consider the age factor when assigning tasks and providing training to employees, as older employees may have better experience and better understand efficient techniques in harvesting oil palm.
Analyzing other factors: The company should analyze other factors that may also contribute to employee performance, such as the length of formal education, the number of dependents, and salaries.
Providing training and development opportunities: The company should provide training and development opportunities to employees to improve their skills and knowledge, which can lead to improved productivity.

This study has several limitations that should be noted. Firstly, the study was conducted in a single location, which may not be representative of other locations. Secondly, the study only examined a limited number of factors that may affect work productivity. Finally, the study was based on a cross-sectional design, which may not capture the dynamic nature of work productivity.
