Introduction

In 2020, the Health Social Security Organizing Agency (BPJS Health) officially raised contributions for BPJS Health Classes 1 and 2. Respondents who rarely use BPJS Health services feel disadvantaged by the increase in contributions.

Despite objections, most of the respondents (90%) remained obedient to pay fees in accordance with the time specified by BPJS Health. They do not want to lose the rights of membership and benefits offered by BPJS Health. The need for health services is a major factor for them to remain participants.

Discussion

The results of this study indicate that an increase in BPJS Health contributions has a significant impact on the perceptions and behavior of participants. Although still bound by the BPJS Health program, many participants feel dissatisfied with the services received and assume an increase in contributions is unfair.

Based on the results of this study, the following suggestions can be made:

Improving the quality of health services: BPJS Health needs to improve the quality of health services evenly throughout Indonesia, with a focus on increasing access and quality of services in remote areas.
Reviewing the mechanism for determining contributions: BPJS Health needs to review the mechanism for determining contributions to be more fair and transparent. Determination of contributions must consider factors such as the level of participant income, the number of family members, and the needs of health services.
Facilitating the file management process: BPJS Health needs to facilitate the process of managing files and health services to be more efficient and easily accessed by participants.
Increasing transparency and accountability: BPJS Health needs to increase transparency and accountability in the management of funds and health insurance programs. This will build participant trust in BPJS Health.

Conclusion

Improving services and transparency is very important to maintain the sustainability of the BPJS Health program. Increasing the satisfaction of participants will also encourage compliance in payment of contributions and ensure the sustainability of the health insurance program for the whole community.
