Response to the Growth of Oil Palm Seedlings to Zeorea Fertilizer in Various Types of Planting Media in Main Nursery

Introduction

The growth and development of oil palm seedlings are crucial for the productivity of oil palm plantations. One of the key factors that influence the growth of oil palm seedlings is the type of planting media used. Planting media can provide essential nutrients, water, and oxygen to the seedlings, which are necessary for their growth and development. In addition to planting media, fertilizers also play a significant role in promoting the growth of oil palm seedlings. Zeorea fertilizer is a type of fertilizer that is commonly used in oil palm plantations to promote seedling growth. However, the effectiveness of zeorea fertilizer can be influenced by the type of planting media used. Therefore, this study aims to investigate the response of oil palm seedlings to zeorea fertilizer in various types of planting media in Main Nursery.

Methodology

This study was conducted in Main Nursery, Jalan Karya Jasa No. 1 Johor Building, from March to June 2002. The design used was a factorial random group design (shelf) with two treatment factors and three replications. The first factor included the type of planting media (M) consisting of four variations, namely M0 (100% subsoil), MI (subsoil: compost = 1: 1), M2 (subsoil: compost = 1: 2), and M3 (subsoil: compost = 1: 3). The second factor was the dose of Zeorea (Z) fertilizer that was tested in four levels, namely Z0 (0 g/seeds), Z1 (10 g/seeds), Z2 (20 g/seeds), and Z3 (30 g/seeds).

Variables Observed

The variables observed in this study included the height of the seeds (cm), the increase in stem diameter (mm), the total leaf area (cm²), the number of chlorophyll (grain/6 mm²), the fresh weight of the seeds (g), the lower fresh weight seeds (g), root length (cm), root volume (cc), dry weight of the upper part of the seed (g), and the bottom weight of the seeds (g).

Results

The results of this study showed that the type of planting media had a significant effect on several growth parameters, such as the height increase of seeds, root length, root volume, as well as fresh and dry weight and bottom of the seeds. However, the planting media had no significant effect on the increase in stem diameter, the number of chlorophyll, and the total leaf area. From this study, the best type of planting media for the growth of oil palm seedlings is a comparison of subsoil: compost 1: 3.

On the other hand, the treatment of zeorea fertilizer doses also shows a significant effect on the growth of seeds. The best dose of fertilizer is found at level 20 g/seedlings, which shows concrete yields in the height increase of seeds, the increase in stem diameter, the number of chlorophyll, as well as the weight of fresh and dry and bottom of the seeds. However, the dose of fertilizer does not have a significant effect on the total leaf area, root length, and root volume.

Interaction between Planting Media and Fertilizer Dose

The interaction between the type of planting media and the dose of zeorea fertilizer does not show a significant effect on all observed parameters to seeds aged 12 MST (month after planting).

Conclusion

From the analysis conducted, it can be concluded that the selection of planting media and the right dose of fertilizer is the key to increasing the growth of oil palm seeds. The optimal use of planting media, such as subsoil: compost 1: 3, can support the development of roots and other vegetative growth. In addition, the use of zeorea fertilizer with a dose of 20 g/seeds has been proven effective in stimulating growth. Through this research, it is expected to provide guidance for farmers and garden managers in increasing the productivity of oil palm seedlings in a sustainable manner.

Implications of the Study

The findings of this study have significant implications for the oil palm industry. The use of subsoil: compost 1: 3 as a planting media can support the development of roots and other vegetative growth, leading to increased productivity of oil palm seedlings. Additionally, the use of zeorea fertilizer with a dose of 20 g/seeds can stimulate growth and increase the productivity of oil palm seedlings. These findings can provide guidance for farmers and garden managers in increasing the productivity of oil palm seedlings in a sustainable manner.

Limitations of the Study

This study has several limitations. The study was conducted in a controlled environment, and the results may not be generalizable to other environments. Additionally, the study only investigated the response of oil palm seedlings to zeorea fertilizer in various types of planting media, and did not investigate other factors that may influence the growth of oil palm seedlings.

Future Research Directions

Future research should investigate the response of oil palm seedlings to other types of fertilizers and planting media.
