Introduction

The performance of nurses at Tanjung Pura General Hospital, Langkat Regency, is a reflection of the quality of nursing services provided. To achieve optimal treatment, support from hospital management is very necessary, especially in creating a good quality of work life for nurses. According to Cascio (2003), the quality of work life refers to employee perceptions of their mental and physical well-being during work. Therefore, it is essential to understand the relationship between the quality of work life and the performance of nurses.

Background

The quality of work life is a crucial aspect of an organization's success. It encompasses various factors, including employee participation, appropriate compensation, work safety, pride in institutions, career development, available facilities, conflict resolution, and communication. These factors contribute to an employee's overall satisfaction and well-being, which in turn affects their performance. In the healthcare industry, where nurses play a vital role in providing quality care to patients, understanding the relationship between the quality of work life and nurse performance is essential.

Methodology

This study aims to analyze the relationship between the quality of work life and the performance of nurses in the Tanjung Pura General Hospital in 2014. The research method used was an analytical survey with a population of 82 nurses. Data was collected through a questionnaire and tested using the Spearman rank correlation test. The questionnaire consisted of questions related to employee participation, appropriate compensation, work safety, pride in institutions, career development, available facilities, conflict resolution, and communication.

Results

The results showed a significant correlation between the quality of work life and the performance of nurses, with the value of P = 0.001 and the value of R = 0.810. This shows that the better the quality of work life felt by nurses, the higher their performance. This finding underlines the importance of the role of hospital management in improving the quality of nurses' work life in order to improve their performance.

Discussion

The results of this study highlight the importance of the quality of work life in improving nurse performance. The significant correlation between the two variables suggests that hospital management should focus on creating a good quality of work life for nurses.
