Introduction

Land classification is a crucial aspect of understanding the properties and characteristics of soil in a particular region. It provides valuable information that can be used for land use planning, land management, and agricultural development. This study aims to classify the types of soil in Sihiong Village, Sinar Sabungan, and Lumban Lobu, Bonatua Lunasi District, Toba Samosir Regency based on the 2010 Land Taxonomy.

Methodology

This study was conducted by direct observation in the field and laboratory analysis in the Laboratory of Soil Chemistry, Research Center and Technology, Faculty of Agriculture, University of North Sumatra, Medan. Field observations were carried out in three locations, namely:

Profile I in Sihiong Village

Location: Sihiong Village
Slope: 21% (waves)
Height: 1024 meters above sea level (masl)
Physical properties observed: Color, structure, texture, consistency, roots, and effective depth

Profile II in Sinar Sabungan Village

Location: Sinar Sabungan Village
Slope: 15% (waves)
Height: 991 meters above sea level (masl)
Physical properties observed: Color, structure, texture, consistency, roots, and effective depth

Profile III in Lumban Lobu Village

Location: Lumban Lobu Village
Slope: 15% (waves)
Height: 1071 meters above sea level
Physical properties observed: Color, structure, texture, consistency, roots, and effective depth

Laboratory Analysis

Soil samples of each horizon were taken to be analyzed in the laboratory. Laboratory analysis included:

Soil texture
Content weight
C-organic
Basic exchange (Ca2+, Mg2+, K+, and Na+)
H2O pH
KCL pH
Kation Exchange Capacity (KTK)

The results showed land classification based on the 2010 land taxonomy in each village as follows:

Sub Group: Fluventic Humudepts

Sinar Sabungan Village

Order: Inceptisols

Lumban Lobu Village

Definition: Great Group Entisol which has a thick Horizon A and fine textured
Characteristics: Thick Horizon A and fine textured
