Prioritization of Deli Watershed Management Using the AHPSYI Method in GIS Format

Introduction

Watershed management is a complex and challenging task due to the vast area that needs to be managed, while resources and funding are limited. Effective methods are needed to prioritize areas that require the most attention, assisting decision makers in planning the management and conservation of watersheds. This study examines the priority management of the Deli watershed in North Sumatra using the AHPSYI (Analytic Hierarchy Process Sediment Yield Index) method, which combines the concept of land loss with spatial analysis using a geographical information system (GIS) to determine management priorities.

Watershed management is crucial for maintaining the health of water resources, preventing erosion, and ensuring the sustainability of ecosystems. The Deli watershed, located in North Sumatra, is a critical area that requires effective management to prevent soil loss and erosion. This study uses topographic data, rainfall, soil type, and land cover that is visualized in the GIS framework. The micro-das boundary is determined by using QGIS software and DEM NAS data, producing 53 micro-das in the Deli Watershed which covers the Karo Regency, Deli Serdang Regency, and Medan City. The AHPSYI method classifies micro-das priorities into four classes: low, medium, high, and very high.

The results of the analysis show that:

*** 8 Micro-das ** categorized as ** very high priority ** (for example PT4, PT5, PT3, PT11, SM2, PT12, PT6, and PT7), with a total area of approximately 13,661 ha (32% of the total watershed of Deli). *** 15 Micro-das ** Entering ** High priority ** with a total area of 13,661 ha (32% of the total watershed of Deli). *** 17 Micro-das ** Entering ** Medium priority ** with a total area of 15,845 ha (37% of the total watershed of Deli). *** 13 Micro-das ** is categorized as ** low priority ** with a total area of 7,904 ha (18% of the total watershed of Deli).

Discussion

The ratio between critical land maps and micro-das priority maps shows that 77.4% of high and very high priority areas are in critical and very critical land. This shows that the AHPSYI method accurately identifies areas that require serious attention in the management of the Deli watershed.
