Introduction

This process is carried out by adding Styrene and Benzoyl Peroxide comomers to the mixture. The rotor speed and reaction time are also evaluated in this study, with experiments conducted at rotor speeds of 70, 80, and 90 rpm and reaction times of 6, 8, and 12 minutes.

Physical and Chemical Characterization

The physical and chemical characteristics of the grafting products are analyzed using several methods, including Fourier Transformed Infrared (FT-IR), Thermogravimetry Analysis (TGA), and Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC). The results of the FT-IR spectra show that maleate anhydride grafting in cyclical natural rubber is proven by the appearance of bands at the frequency of 1732 cm-1, 1854 cm-1, and 706 cm-1. With an increase in maleate anhydride concentrations, the degree of grafting also increases, which is indicated by the high absorption intensity at 1732 cm-1 and 1854 cm-1. In addition, Styrene comomers are able to increase the degree of grafting anhydride maleate up to 185%.

DSC Analysis

From the DSC analysis, it can be seen that the higher the degree of grafting anhydride maleate, the higher the temperature of the glass transition that is observed. This indicates that the modified product has better thermal properties compared to the standard cyclical natural rubber.

TGA Characterization

The results of TGA characterization show that the thermal properties of grafting products do not differ significantly from the standard of cyclical natural rubber. However, increasing the degree of grafting anhydride maleat has a positive effect on product compatibility with synthetic binding polyamide.
