Introduction

Agarwood leaf tea, derived from the leaves of the Aquilaria malaccensis Lamk tree, has been gaining popularity due to its high antioxidant content and numerous health benefits. However, the attractiveness of the packaging also plays a significant role in increasing consumer interest in consuming this leaf tea. This study aims to evaluate the level of consumer preference for various forms of simplicia packaging of agarwood leaf tea, as well as to determine the impact of the form of packaging and the length of storage on the antioxidant content of the tea.

Methodology

This study was conducted through seven stages, including:

Sampling: Collection of agarwood leaves from the Aquilaria malaccensis Lamk tree
Making Simplicia: Preparation of agarwood leaf tea simplicia
Packaging and Agarwood Leaf Tea: Packaging of agarwood leaf tea in three different forms: tea bag, aluminum foil, and polyethylene plastic
Making Water and Ethanol Extracts: Preparation of water and ethanol extracts from the agarwood leaf tea simplicia
Water Content Testing: Testing of the water content in each packaging form
Testing Antioxidant Activity: Testing of the antioxidant activity of the water and ethanol extracts using the DPPH method
Consumer Preference Tests: Conducting consumer preference tests on various forms of packaging

Results

The results of this study showed that the lowest water content was found in aluminum foil packaging with a figure of 4.66%, while the highest water content was found in the tea bag package of 6.66%. This indicates that aluminum foil packaging is more effective in maintaining the freshness and quality of agarwood leaf tea.

Both water extracts and ethanol extracts from the simplicia of agarwood leaves have antioxidant content that is included in the very strong category. This shows that although in various packages, the health benefits of agarwood leaf tea are maintained.

After storage for 3 months, consumer preference tests showed that agarwood leaf tea is still preferred by the public. The score obtained for the color was 4.0, taste 4.1, and aroma 4.03, indicating that the quality of tea remains good.

Of the three types of packaging tested, tea bag packaging is the most preferred with a percentage of 73.33%, followed by aluminum foil packaging with 26.67%. Interestingly, no one chose polyethylene plastic packaging, showing that consumers do not like the packaging.
