Introduction

The world of health is constantly facing the challenges of morbidity and mortality of mothers and children, particularly in cases of abnormal labor. Abnormal labor cases often indicate complications that appear during labor, which are related to various risk factors possessed by pregnant women. These risk factors are referred to as determinant risk factors, and understanding them is crucial to reduce the possibility of abnormal childbirth. This study aims to analyze the effect of risk factors possessed by pregnant women on childbirth with actions at H. Adam Malik Hospital Medan and Dr. Pringadi Medan.

Background

In the context of healthcare, the risk factors associated with childbirth are a significant concern. These risk factors can be categorized into two types: determinant risk factors and proximal risk factors. Determinant risk factors are those that are related to the individual's characteristics, such as age, education level, and socioeconomic status. Proximal risk factors, on the other hand, are those that are related to the immediate circumstances of the pregnancy, such as the presence of systemic diseases, complications during pregnancy, and complications during labor.

Research Purposes

The primary objective of this study is to analyze the effect of risk factors possessed by pregnant women on childbirth with actions at H. Adam Malik Hospital Medan and Dr. Pringadi Medan. By understanding this relationship, it is expected to provide better insight into prevention steps that can be taken to improve the safety of mothers and children during labor. This study aims to identify the determinant risk factors that are associated with abnormal labor and to explore the relationship between these risk factors and the type of labor experienced by pregnant women.

Research Methods

This study was conducted with a retrospective analytic approach that examined the medical record of maternity at H. Adam Malik Hospital Medan during the period of January 1, 2012 to December 31, 2012. The data obtained were processed using descriptive and inferential statistical analysis. The analysis was carried out univariate and bivariate using the Chi-Square test to determine the relationship between the variables under study.

Research Design

The research design used in this study is a retrospective analytic design. This design involves the analysis of existing data that has been collected in the past. The data used in this study were obtained from the medical records of mothers who experienced normal delivery and childbirth with action for one year at H. Adam Malik Medan Hospital and Dr. Pringadi Medan.

Data Collection

The data used in this study were obtained from the medical records of mothers who experienced normal delivery and childbirth with action for one year at H. Adam Malik Medan Hospital and Dr. Pringadi Medan. The data collected included demographic information, medical history, and obstetric history.

Data Analysis

The data obtained were processed using descriptive and inferential statistical analysis. The analysis was carried out univariate and bivariate using the Chi-Square test to determine the relationship between the variables under study.

Research Result

From the results of the study, data were obtained from 603 medical records of mothers who experienced normal delivery and childbirth with action for one year at H. Adam Malik Medan Hospital and Dr. Pringadi Medan. The analysis shows that the long-distance determinant factor, such as the level of education and work of the husband, does not show a significant relationship with the type of labor (P> 0.05). Conversely, other determinant factors that are closer such as the age of the mother, the number of parity, the distance of pregnancy, residence, and referral status also show the same results (P> 0.05), which indicates there is no significant relationship with the type of labor.

However, from the determinant of the results, there are significant findings related to complications during pregnancy, complications during labor, as well as the presence of systemic diseases experienced by the mother. The analysis shows the value of P <0.05, which indicates that there is a significant relationship between these factors and the type of mother's delivery.

Conclusions

Based on the results of the study, it can be concluded that factors such as complications that occur during pregnancy, complications that occur during labor, and the presence of systemic diseases in the mother indicates a significant relationship that affects the type of labor with actions experienced by pregnant women for one year in Hospital H. Adam Malik Medan and RSUP Dr. Pringadi Medan. This study underlines the importance of monitoring and managing risk factors during pregnancy and childbirth to improve the safety of mothers and children.
