The research population includes all manufacturing companies listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange during the 2013 to 2014 period, with a total sample of 132 companies. The method applied in this study is multiple regression analysis, where researchers also conducted a classic assumption test and hypothesis test which includes the F test, T test, and the coefficient of determination (R²) with a significance level of 5%.

Results

The results of this study showed that the blockholder ownership variable had a positive but not significant influence on debt policy. This indicates that even though the ownership of blockholders can affect managerial decisions, the impact on the company's debt policy is not strong enough to be used as a benchmark. Conversely, the free cash flow variables have a negative and significant effect on debt policy. This suggests that companies with high free cash flows tend to use less debt, maybe because they have enough funds to fund their operations and investments without depending on debt.

The company's size also shows a positive and significant effect on debt policy. Larger companies usually have better access to the capital market and are more able to manage debt wisely. Finally, the variable set of investment opportunities has a positive but not significant effect on debt policy, indicating that even though the company has many investment opportunities, it does not always encourage them to utilize debt as a source of funding.

It is essential for them to conduct a comprehensive analysis of the use of debt by the company and the factors that influence it, so that the investment decisions taken do not have the potential to be detrimental in the future.
