Introduction

Background of the Study

PT. Alfa Scorpii is a leading company in the industry, with a branch office located in Setia Budi Medan. The sales division of this branch has been experiencing a decline in employee morale, with employees feeling bored at work, facing high workloads, and struggling to meet targets within a limited time. This has led to increased stress levels and decreased job satisfaction among employees. The purpose of this study is to examine the effect of job satisfaction and work stress on the productivity of the sales division at PT. Alfa Scorpii Branch Setia Budi Medan.

Methodology

To test the hypothesis, this study used multiple linear regression analysis with the F (simultaneous) test and T test (partial). The data were analyzed using SPSS 22.00. The analysis results show the regression equation y = 20,673 + 0.313x1 - 0.262x2, which indicates that:

Job satisfaction (X1) has a positive influence on productivity. That is, the higher the level of job satisfaction, the higher the productivity.
Work stress (X2) has a negative influence on productivity. That is, the higher the level of work stress, the lower the productivity.

Deeper Analysis

The analysis also shows that simultaneously and partially, both job satisfaction and work stress have a significant influence on the productivity of the sales division. However, the results also indicate that work stress has a greater contribution to productivity compared to job satisfaction. This can be seen from the significance value of work stress (0.011) which is smaller compared to the significance value of job satisfaction (0.044).

Practical Implications

The results of this study have practical implications for PT. Alfa Scorpii in increasing the productivity of the Sales Division. Here are some steps that can be taken:

Increasing Job Satisfaction

The company can increase employee job satisfaction through a fair career development program, award, and reward system. This can include providing opportunities for employees to develop their skills and advance in their careers, recognizing and rewarding employees for their achievements, and creating a positive and supportive work environment.

Reducing Work Stress

The company can reduce the level of work stress by providing stress management training, creating a positive and supportive work environment, and providing flexibility of work time. This can include providing employees with the tools and resources they need to manage their stress levels, creating a work environment that is free from conflict and negativity, and offering flexible work arrangements that allow employees to balance their work and personal life.

Conclusion

This study shows that both job satisfaction and work stress have a significant influence on the productivity of the Sales Division of PT. Alfa Scorpii Branch Setia Budi Medan. However, work stress has a greater contribution in influencing productivity. Companies need to pay attention to factors that can increase job satisfaction and reduce employee work stress to increase the productivity of the sales division.

Recommendations

Based on the findings of this study, the following recommendations are made:

PT. Alfa Scorpii should implement a fair career development program, award, and reward system to increase employee job satisfaction.
The company should provide stress management training and create a positive and supportive work environment to reduce employee work stress.
The company should offer flexible work arrangements that allow employees to balance their work and personal life.
The company should regularly monitor and evaluate the productivity of the sales division and make adjustments as needed to ensure that employees are working in a productive and efficient manner.

Limitations of the Study

This study has several limitations that should be noted. Firstly, the study was conducted at a single company, PT. Alfa Scorpii, and the findings may not be generalizable to other companies. Secondly, the study only examined the effect of job satisfaction and work stress on productivity and did not consider other factors that may influence productivity. Finally, the study was based on a cross-sectional design and did not examine the longitudinal effects of job satisfaction and work stress on productivity.
