This study aims to evaluate the drug management system in the pharmaceutical installation of the University of North Sumatra Hospital to ensure that the practice applied has met the established standards.

The University of North Sumatra Hospital is a leading healthcare institution in Indonesia, providing comprehensive medical services to patients from various backgrounds. The hospital's pharmacy installation plays a vital role in ensuring the safe and effective use of medications. However, the complexity of drug management requires a systematic approach to ensure that all stages, from selection to use, are executed efficiently.

Research Methodology

This research employed a descriptive-evaluative approach, where data was collected through retrospective and concurrent methods. The data obtained were grouped into quantitative and qualitative data. The results showed that in the selection stage, around 93.8% of the drugs were provided by the hospital in accordance with the national formulary. However, when looking at the planning and procurement stage, the frequency of procurement for each drug item only reaches 12 times a year, which is relatively low. The percentage of dead stock and the level of drug availability is also optimal, with an average of 17 months 16 days. This shows that the hospital has made good efforts in managing drug inventory.

At the stage of drug use, the data shows that the average number of drug items per prescription for outpatient and inpatient in 2017 amounted to 3.69 and 5.43, and in 2018 it was 3.63 and 4.2. The percentage of generation of generic drugs also showed a pretty good number, with 81.93% in 2017 and 80.9% in 2018. This is important to maintain lower medical costs for patients and ensure broader drug accessibility.
