Relationship between Farmers Group Performance with the Productivity and Revenue of Arabica Coffee Farmers (Coffea Arabica) (Case: Ulu Pungkut District, Mandailing Natal Regency)

Introduction

The performance of farmer groups plays a crucial role in determining the productivity and revenue of Arabica coffee farmers. In this study, we aim to investigate the relationship between the performance of farmer groups and the productivity and revenue of Arabica coffee farmers in Ulu Pungkut District, Mandailing Natal Regency. The study employed a purposive sampling method to select three farmer groups, namely Satahi 1, True Farmers Group, and Farmers Group Advanced Together. The data analysis was conducted using the CIPP (Context, Input, Process, Product) and Chi Square methods to identify the relationship between the existing variables.

Methodology

The research method employed in this study was purposive sampling, which aimed to determine the right research area. The selection of samples was carried out using the random sampling method. The data collection was conducted through a survey, which included a questionnaire and an interview with the members of the farmer groups. The data analysis was carried out using the CIPP and Chi Square methods to identify the relationship between the existing variables.

Performance of Farmer Groups

The performance of the Satahi 1 farmer group was found to be good, with an average performance indicator score of 64.93. On the other hand, the True Farmers Group had a fairly good performance with an average score of 41.37, while the Farmers Group Advanced Together had an average score of 35.21. This performance appraisal reflects how effective the farmer groups in managing existing resources and contributing to the welfare of their members.

Productivity of Arabica Coffee Farmers

The members of the Satahi 1 farmer group recorded an average harvest of 44 kg/ha, which is included in the category of high productivity. Meanwhile, members of the True and Forward Farmers Group together with each recorded harvest of 35.73 kg/ha and 32.64 kg/ha, classified in the category of medium and low productivity. This difference in productivity is closely related to factors such as farmer group management, cultivation techniques, and access to appropriate agricultural information and technology.

Revenue of Arabica Coffee Farmers

The members of the Satahi 1 Farmers Group achieve an average income of Rp. 21,760,493/ha, relatively high. The income of the True Farmers Group members is in a middle position with an average of Rp. 13,367,842/ha, while the income of the members of the Farmers Group Forward Together is recorded as the lowest with Rp. 6,826,440/ha. The income earned by these farmers shows a positive impact of the performance of farmer groups in increasing their farm outcomes.

Relationship between Performance of Farmer Groups and Productivity and Revenue

More analysis shows a significant relationship between the performance of farmer groups and productivity and member income. This indicates that farmer groups that have good performance tend to be able to maximize the potential of agricultural products and their members' income. Therefore, improvement of the performance of farmer groups needs to be continued through training, increasing access to information, and strengthening cooperation between members.

Overall, this research gives a clear picture that the performance of farmer groups has a significant impact on the productivity and income of Arabica coffee farmers. For this reason, it is important for the government and related institutions to pay more attention to the development of farmer groups, so that farmers can achieve more optimal productivity and income.
