In the April-June 2011 period, a total of 176 cases of diarrhea were reported in toddlers, highlighting the need for a comprehensive study on the factors contributing to this health issue.

Diarrhea is a leading cause of morbidity and mortality in children under five, and its impact is particularly pronounced in developing countries. In Tanjung Morawa District, the high incidence of diarrhea in toddlers is a cause for concern, and it is essential to identify the underlying factors contributing to this health issue. The results of this study showed that the attitude and actions of mothers about the diet of children under five have a significant effect on the incidence of diarrhea in Tanjung Morawa District. Specifically, the study found that the attitude and actions of mothers dominantly affect the incidence of diarrhea, while their knowledge of toddlers' diet does not have a significant impact. This finding suggests that knowledge alone is not enough to prevent diarrhea in toddlers, and that mother's behavior, particularly her actions in applying the right and hygienic diet, is the main factor that affects the incidence of diarrhea.

Puskesmas (Community Health Centers) need to make a home visit regularly, at least once a month, to provide health education about the right eating patterns and clean living practices.

Families need to apply a variety of diet and balanced nutritious food for toddlers, as well as practicing clean life in processing food.
