Introduction

Personality is a unique aspect that distinguishes the behavior of each individual. It is not only influenced by genetic factors but also by the environment and life experiences. In the context of Nursing Professional students at the Faculty of Nursing, University of North Sumatra, personality plays an important role in their self-development, especially in facing academic challenges and clinical practices. One aspect that is closely related to personality is self-efficacy, which is an individual belief in his ability to perform a behavior effectively.

Background

Self-efficacy is a crucial concept in understanding an individual's ability to perform a task or behavior. It is a key factor in determining an individual's motivation, confidence, and overall performance. In the context of nursing education, self-efficacy is essential for students to develop the skills and confidence needed to provide high-quality patient care. However, self-efficacy is not solely determined by individual factors, but also by environmental and social factors.

Methodology

A correlative descriptive study was conducted to explore the relationship between personality and self-efficacy among Nursing profession students. In this study, 84 students were selected using probability sampling techniques with the simple random sampling method. Data was collected using a questionnaire that included demographic data, personality scale (EPI-A), and self-efficacy scale. The results showed that the majority of students had extroverted personalities, as many as 82 people (97.6%) of total samples, and also had a high level of self-efficacy, which was 82 people (97.6%).

Results

Further analysis using the Pearson Product Moment test produces a value of P = 0,000 and the correlation coefficient of 0.463. Although these results show a significant relationship between personality and self-efficacy, the strength of the relationship is still classified as weak. This shows that although students who have extroverted personalities tend to have high confidence in their abilities, there are other factors that also influence their self-efficacy.

Discussion

The importance of this finding lies in the implications for nursing education. Knowledge of the relationship between personality and self-efficacy can be used to design interventions that support students in developing their confidence. For example, students with introverted personalities can be given additional guidance and support to help them express themselves and actively participate in academic and clinical activities. Thus, students are expected to achieve high levels of self-efficacy, although they may have a more closed personality.
