The Selection of Liquid Waste Treatment Technology Using the AHP and Vikor Methods at PT. XYZ

Introduction

Palm oil production in Indonesia has been experiencing a significant growth trend from year to year. In addition to producing Crude Palm Oil (CPO) and Palm Kernel Oil (PKO), palm oil mills also produce various types of waste, namely solid waste, liquid waste, and gas waste. These waste has the potential to have a negative impact on the environment if not managed properly. Although some liquid waste treatment technologies have been applied in oil palm factories in Indonesia, there is still no comprehensive assessment to determine the best liquid waste treatment technology. Therefore, PT. XYZ evaluates the liquid waste treatment technology by applying the Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) and Vikor methods.

Background of the Study

Palm oil production is one of the largest industries in Indonesia, and it has been growing rapidly in recent years. The growth of the industry has led to an increase in the production of waste, including liquid waste. Liquid waste from palm oil mills can contain high levels of pollutants, such as suspended solids, oil and grease, and other contaminants. If not managed properly, these pollutants can have a negative impact on the environment, including water pollution, soil contamination, and air pollution.

Determination of Criteria and Subcriteria

In this study, the criteria and subcriteria used to assess liquid waste treatment technology were built based on responses from experts through open and closed questionnaires. This process aims to identify key factors that can affect the effectiveness of technology in managing liquid waste. With this approach, it is expected that the results of the assessment can reflect the real conditions on the ground and the needs and expectations of stakeholders.

Operating Costs: This subcriterion assesses the ongoing operating costs of the technology.

Assessment Process

A total of four criteria and 16 subcriteria were determined to compile the assessment weight. In the AHP process, the results show that the drainage system has the highest priority weight of 0.3915, which makes it the best alternative compared to other liquid waste treatment technologies, namely the RBC system with a weight of 0.3167 and a pond system with a weight of 0.2918. This shows that the drainage system is not only more efficient in processing liquid waste but is also more environmentally friendly.

Evaluation using the Vikor method

The Vikor method, which is also applied in this study, gives results that are in line with AHP analysis, where the Ranut system won first place. Vikor emphasizes optimal compromise, which means that in situations where there is no one perfect solution, the most balanced solution must be sought from various alternatives. This is important in the context of liquid waste treatment, where decisions must consider environmental, economic, and social aspects.

Conclusion

Through the application of the AHP and Vikor method, PT. XYZ can determine the most efficient and effective liquid waste treatment technology, namely the drainage system. This research is not only beneficial for PT. XYZ in improving its waste management but can also be a reference for other palm oil mills in Indonesia in choosing the right technology for liquid waste treatment. This effort is important to maintain environmental sustainability, support government programs in waste management, and have a positive impact on the surrounding community.

Based on the results of this study, the following recommendations are made:

Implementation of the drainage system: PT. XYZ should implement the drainage system as the most efficient and effective liquid waste treatment technology.
Training and education: PT. XYZ should provide training and education to its employees on the proper operation and maintenance of the drainage system.
Monitoring and evaluation: PT. XYZ should regularly monitor and evaluate the performance of the drainage system to ensure that it is operating effectively and efficiently.
