Health Development as a National Priority

Health services are one of the main needs of humans that must be met. In this context, the Susanna Wesley Methodist General Hospital in Selayang has committed to providing health services through the Social Security Organizing Agency (BPJS) program. This study aims to analyze the quality and effectiveness of health services provided to BPJS patients at the hospital, as well as patient responses to the services received. Health development is a crucial aspect of national development, and the government has an obligation to provide adequate health facilities. The Susanna Wesley Methodist General Hospital functions as one of the healthcare providers who are expected to meet the needs of the community.

Theory of Structural Functionalism

This study uses the theory of structural functionalism that emphasizes the importance of manifest and latent functions in social systems, including in health services. Hospital manifest functions are directly related to services provided to BPJS patients, such as the availability of health facilities, emergency handling, and quality medical services. Meanwhile, latent functions include additional benefits obtained by hospitals, such as increasing financial reputation and feasibility since the implementation of the BPJS program. The theory of structural functionalism provides a framework for understanding the complex relationships between healthcare providers, patients, and the government.

Research Methods

The research method used is descriptive qualitative, which focuses on individual experience as a research subject. Data obtained through structured interviews with 12 informants, consisting of 4 women and 5 men as BPJS patients, as well as 3 hospital employees. In addition to interviews, observations and documentation are also carried out to support data collection. The data interpretation process is carried out in stages, starting from the collection, reduction, to the preparation of conclusions and recommendations. The use of descriptive qualitative research methods allows for a deeper understanding of the experiences and perceptions of BPJS patients and hospital employees.

Research Findings

The results showed that health services at the Susanna Wesley Methodist General Hospital fulfilled the manifest function well. BPJS patients receive services which include room facilities, medicines, and emergency treatment. However, there are several challenges faced in the implementation of the BPJS program. Patients' responses to the procedures set are often not appropriate, which causes various problems in health services. For example, there are patients who do not understand the applicable BPJS administrative procedures, thus hampering their access to the promised services. The findings highlight the need for improved communication and education between healthcare providers and patients.

Problem Analysis

The discrepancy between the patient's expectations and the existing service procedures often creates friction in the experience of treatment. BPJS as a government program aims to provide better access to health services for the community, but in practice, there are still patients who feel less satisfied with the services received. This shows the need for more intensive socialization and education to patients about their rights and obligations as BPJS participants. The problem analysis highlights the importance of addressing the needs and expectations of patients in order to improve the quality of healthcare services.
