Introduction

Family planning is a crucial initiative aimed at reducing the birth rate by using contraceptives in a sustainable manner. In Bagan Asahan Village, Tanjung Balai District, Asahan Regency, the use of injection contraception is a popular method among women of fertile age (WUS). However, the factors that influence the selection of this method are not well understood. This study aims to identify the factors that influence the selection of injection contraceptive methods in WUS in Bagan Asahan Village.

Background

The Family Planning Program is an important initiative that aims to reduce the birth rate by using contraceptives in a sustainable manner. In Bagan Asahan Village, there are around 400 WUS, with around 70% of them choosing to use injection contraception. The use of injection contraception is a popular method among WUS in this village, but the factors that influence the selection of this method are not well understood.

Research Purpose

This study uses an analytic descriptive approach with a cross-sectional method aimed at identifying the factors that influence the selection of injection contraceptive methods in WUS in Bagan Asahan Village, Tanjung Balai District, Asahan Regency, in 2016. The study aims to identify the factors that influence the selection of injection contraceptive methods among WUS in this village.

Methodology

The study used a cross-sectional method with a simple sampling method to select 400 WUS as respondents. The study collected data on the factors that influence the selection of injection contraceptive methods among WUS in Bagan Asahan Village.

Results

The results of the study showed that several factors were significantly related to the selection of injection contraceptive methods. These factors include:

Knowledge (p = 0.0001)

The level of women's knowledge of injection contraception greatly influences their decision to choose this method. Women who are more informed tend to be more confident in using injection contraception. This suggests that education and awareness about injection contraception are crucial in influencing the selection of this method.

Attitude (p = 0.018)

A positive attitude towards the use of injection contraception will increase the likelihood of choosing this method. Conversely, negative attitudes can prevent them from choosing injection contraception. This suggests that the attitude of WUS towards injection contraception is an important factor in influencing the selection of this method.

The Role of Health Workers (p = 0.021)

Support and information provided by health workers is very crucial. They play a role in providing education about various methods of contraception available, including the benefits and risks of each method. This suggests that the role of health workers in providing education and support is an important factor in influencing the selection of injection contraceptive methods.

Support from Husbands

Women who get support from their husbands tend to be more open to existing contraceptive choices. This suggests that the support of husbands is an important factor in influencing the selection of injection contraceptive methods.

However, this study also found that there are several variables that have no significant relationship with the selection of injection contraceptive methods, namely: age, education, work, income, and infrastructure in the village.

Discussion

The results of this study suggest that several factors influence the selection of injection contraceptive methods among WUS in Bagan Asahan Village. These factors include knowledge, attitude, the role of health workers, and support from husbands. The study also found that age, education, work, income, and infrastructure in the village have no significant relationship with the selection of injection contraceptive methods.

Conclusion

The study concludes that the selection of injection contraceptive methods among WUS in Bagan Asahan Village is influenced by several factors, including knowledge, attitude, the role of health workers, and support from husbands. The study also found that age, education, work, income, and infrastructure in the village have no significant relationship with the selection of injection contraceptive methods.

Recommendation

Based on the results of the study, it is highly recommended that health workers in local health services increase their role in providing accurate and in-depth information about the various methods of contraception available. It is also recommended that improvement of health service infrastructure is needed to ensure better accessibility for the community. In addition, support from the husband should continue to be nurtured so that women feel more comfortable in choosing the appropriate contraceptive method for them.

Limitation

The study has several limitations, including the use of a cross-sectional method and the selection of a simple sampling method. The study also has a limited sample size, which may not be representative of the entire population of WUS in Bagan Asahan Village.

Future Research

Future research should aim to identify the factors that influence the selection of injection contraceptive methods among WUS in other villages and districts. The study should also aim to identify the effectiveness of the Family Planning Program in reducing the birth rate in Bagan Asahan Village.
