Introduction

Entering old age is a natural process experienced by everyone. As people age, their physical and mental health needs change, and they require more attention and care. Elderly Posyandu is a health program aimed at providing services for those aged 45-59 years (virility/pre-seil), 60-69 years (elderly), and high-risk elderly over 70 years. However, the 2007 data shows that only 505 out of 2511 elderly people who were fostered in East Aceh Regency visited Posyandu. This low utilization rate is a concern, and it encourages research to identify the factors that influence the use of elderly posyandu services in the working area of the East Aceh District Health Center.

Background

Elderly Posyandu is a health program that provides services to elderly people in rural areas. The program aims to improve the health and well-being of the elderly by providing them with access to health services, counseling, and social activities. Methodology

This study uses an explanatory survey method involving 462 elderly aged 45 years and over who visited the elderly posyandu in June 2008 as a population. The research sample amounted to 137 people, selected simply. Data were analyzed using the Chi-Square test and double logistics regression test.

Results

The results of the analysis show that several factors influence the use of elderly posyandu services. Demographic factors such as marital status, work, service quality, mileage, and health workers have a significant influence. While other demographic factors such as age, gender, education, and the number of cadres do not have a significant effect.

The double logistics regression test shows that distance is a dominant variable that affects the use of elderly posyandu services. These results indicate that accessibility is an important factor in encouraging the elderly to utilize posyandu services.

Discussion

The results of this study suggest that improving the quality of services and counseling regarding the benefits of elderly posyandu is an important strategy to increase motivation and the number of elderly visits. Health workers in the working area of the East Aceh District Health Center are expected to improve the quality of services and counseling to overcome access obstacles and increase elderly awareness about the importance of posyandu.

Conclusion

Improving the quality of services and accessibility is crucial to increase the utilization of elderly posyandu services in East Aceh Regency. By providing posyandu in a strategic location, easy to reach, and providing transportation for the elderly who have limited mobility, we can increase accessibility. Additionally, improving the quality of services, such as personalization of services, cleanliness, and comfort, and providing clear and interesting information about the benefits of elderly posyandu can increase motivation and the number of elderly visits.
