Introduction

One of the key factors that can significantly impact a consumer's decision to visit a cinema is their lifestyle and the price of the tickets. This study aims to explore the influence of lifestyle and price on purchasing decisions among students of the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, University of North Sumatra who have visited Cinema XXI.

Background

The entertainment industry has experienced significant growth in recent years, with cinema chains like XXI Cinema competing for market share. To stay ahead of the competition, cinema chains must understand the preferences and behaviors of their target market. Students, in particular, are a crucial demographic for cinema chains, as they are often looking for entertainment experiences that are in line with their trends and lifestyles. Therefore, it is essential for cinema chains to understand the factors that influence students' purchasing decisions.

Methodology

This study employed a quantitative approach with causal associative analysis to explore the influence of lifestyle and price on purchasing decisions among students of the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, University of North Sumatra who have visited Cinema XXI. The research population included all students in the faculty, while the sample studied amounted to 100 respondents selected using the non-probability sampling method with accidental sampling techniques. The data collected was subjected to validity and reliability tests, as well as classic assumption tests, before being processed to produce multiple linear regression equations.

Results

The results of the T test and the F test showed that both lifestyle and price have a positive and significant influence on purchasing decisions, both partially and simultaneously. The Determination Coefficient Test (R²) revealed that lifestyle and price contributed 48.8% to the purchasing decisions of students in Cinema XXI, while 51.2% of purchasing decisions were influenced by other factors that were not identified in this study.

The findings of this study highlight the importance of lifestyle and price in influencing purchasing decisions among students. Lifestyle reflects individual preferences and habits that can affect the way they interact with products and services, including watching movies. Students, as the main target market for Cinema XXI, are often looking for entertainment experiences that are in line with their trends and lifestyles. Students generally have a limited budget, so that the price of cinema tickets is one of the main considerations in their decision to watch movies. Cinema that offers competitive prices or special discounts for students has the potential to attract more visitors.

Conclusion

The results of this study emphasize the importance of paying attention to lifestyle and price factors in formulating marketing strategies in the entertainment industry, especially in theaters. It is hoped that the results of this study can provide insight for the management of Cinema XXI and other entertainment industry players to better understand the market and increase the attractiveness of their products.

Finally, the study only used a quantitative approach, which may not provide a comprehensive understanding of the factors that influence purchasing decisions.
