Introduction

This research was conducted in the village of Bukit Lawang Plantation, Timbang Jaya Village, and Sampe Raya Village in July 2022. The purpose of this study was to provide information about the type of wildlife that can be utilized for tourism development, helping the area manager in collecting biodiversity data, especially wildlife in the supporting village, as well as determining the index of diversity and wild animals.

The buffer village of Gunung Leuser National Park (TNGL) Resort Bukit Lawang, Langkat Regency, has great potential for the development of wildlife tourism. The area is home to a diverse range of wildlife species, including mammals and birds. However, there is a lack of data on the types of wildlife that can be found in the area, which makes it difficult to develop effective conservation and tourism strategies. This study aimed to address this knowledge gap by conducting an inventory of wildlife species in the three buffer villages.

Results

The results of this study showed that in the village of the Bukit Lawang plantation, 19 species were found through interviews and 6 species through observations. In Timbang Jaya Village, 14 species were found through interviews and 12 species through observation. While in Sampe Raya Village, 19 species were found through interviews and 7 species through observation. The mammals found in the three villages are wild boar and kekakkunk.

The Shannon-Wienner (H ') diversity index in the Bukit Lawang plantation village is 0.787, in Sampe Raya Village is 0.471, and in Timbang Jaya Village is 1,713. The Greech Index (E) in the Bukit Lawang Plantation Village is 1,410, in Sampe Raya Village is 0.242, and in Timbang Jaya Village is 0.689.

Discussion

The results of this study indicate that the Timbang Jaya Village has a higher diversity and grade of wildlife compared to the other two villages. This is probably caused by better habitat conditions in Timbang Jaya Village, such as the existence of forests and rivers that are still natural. The study also shows that the community plays an important role in wildlife conservation efforts. Community participation in monitoring and inventory activities of wildlife will increase their awareness about the importance of preserving wildlife and their habitat.

This study provides important information for the manager of the TNGL area in efforts to conservation and develop wildlife-based tourism in the village of support.
