The Effect of Workload and Commitment of Health Workers on Patient Satisfaction at the Tanjung Beringin Health Center, Serdang Bedagai Regency

Introduction

Patient satisfaction is a crucial aspect of healthcare services, and it is influenced by various factors, including the workload and commitment of health workers. The Tanjung Beringin Health Center, located in Serdang Bedagai Regency, is one of the healthcare facilities that provide essential services to the community. However, the center faces challenges in maintaining high patient satisfaction levels due to various factors, including workload and commitment of health workers. This study aims to analyze the effect of workload and commitment of health workers on patient satisfaction at the Tanjung Beringin Health Center.

Background

Patient satisfaction is a critical indicator of the quality of healthcare services. It is influenced by various factors, including the workload and commitment of health workers. Workload refers to the number and types of activities carried out by health workers, both directly and indirectly, during their work time. The commitment of health workers is formed when they feel emotionally bound to the organization, feel they need rewards such as salaries, and uphold the values they profess. A high workload and low commitment of health workers can lead to decreased service quality, which can negatively impact patient satisfaction.

Research Methodology

This study uses the Explanatory Survey method to analyze the effect of workload and the commitment of health workers on patient satisfaction. The population studied consisted of 34 health workers and 34 patients. The data used includes primary data obtained through questionnaires and checks sheets, as well as secondary data from notes at the Puskesmas. Data analysis was carried out using multiple logistics regression with a 95% confidence level.

Research Results

The results showed that 55.9% of patients at the Tanjung Beringin Health Center were not satisfied with the services provided. Meanwhile, 52.9% of health workers have a low affective commitment, 38.2% of lack of continuous commitment, and 55.9% high normative commitment. In the bivariate test, it was found that the workload and affective commitment of health workers are the most influential variables on patient satisfaction.

Analysis and Explanation

These findings highlight the importance of workload management and the commitment of health workers in increasing patient satisfaction. Excessive workload can cause stress and decreased service quality. Therefore, proportional division of tasks is needed. On the other hand, low affective commitment shows that health workers may not feel emotionally connected to the organizational goals, which can have a negative impact on their work motivation.

From these results, Puskesmas management is advised to intervene, such as training to increase the affective commitment of health workers and distribute workloads in accordance with their capacity and expertise. With an increase in these two aspects, it is expected that patient satisfaction can increase, which in turn will contribute to better quality of health services.

Conclusion

Overall, the workload and commitment of health workers play an important role in determining the level of patient satisfaction at the Tanjung Beringin Health Center, Serdang Bedagai Regency. Therefore, the steps for improvement in managing workload and strengthening commitment can be an effective strategy to improve the quality of health services and patient satisfaction in the future.

Recommendations

Based on the findings of this study, the following recommendations are made:

Workload Management: Puskesmas management should implement workload management strategies to ensure that health workers are not overburdened with tasks. This can be achieved by distributing tasks in accordance with their capacity and expertise.
Commitment of Health Workers: Puskesmas management should implement strategies to increase the affective commitment of health workers, such as training and development programs.
Patient Satisfaction: Puskesmas management should implement strategies to improve patient satisfaction, such as providing high-quality services and ensuring that patients are treated with respect and dignity.

This study has several limitations, including:
