Analysis of Factors Related to Compliance with 5M in Prevention of Covid-19 in Workers at PTPN III Kebun Giting Sarang in 2021

Introduction

The COVID-19 pandemic has posed a significant threat to global health, with millions of cases reported worldwide. In the midst of this pandemic, workers have a high risk of spreading viruses through interactions both outside and inside the workplace. Therefore, it is essential to prevent and control the distribution of COVID-19 at work to maintain the continuity of the company's business. PTPN III Kebun Sarang Giting, a rubber processing factory, has issued a memorandum that includes the application of health protocols and adaptations for employee health. Despite various efforts, in September 2021, 13 workers were exposed to Covid-19 and 5 of them had to undergo independent isolation. This study aims to analyze factors related to 5M compliance (wearing masks, washing hands, maintaining distance, avoiding crowds, and limiting mobility) in the prevention of Covid-19 among workers.

Methodology

This study employed a quantitative analytic approach with a cross-sectional design, involving 59 respondents taken randomly. Data was collected through interviews using a questionnaire. The study aimed to identify the factors related to 5M compliance among workers at PTPN III Kebun Sarang Giting.

Characteristics of Workers

The results of the study showed that most of the workers at PTPN III Kebun Sarang Giting are male, more than 35 years old, and have a high level of education. This indicates that worker demographics can affect the understanding and application of health protocols. The demographic characteristics of workers can influence their knowledge, attitudes, and behaviors towards health protocols.

Predisposition of Knowledge and Attitudes

The identified predisposition factor shows that the majority of workers have good knowledge and positive attitudes towards compliance with 5M in the prevention of COVID-19. Good knowledge of COVID-19 and the importance of maintaining health protocols contributes greatly to the level of compliance. When workers understand the risks associated with virus transmission, they tend to be more disciplined in applying preventive measures. The results showed that the 5M compliance level among PTPN III Sarang Giting kebun workers was good. However, this compliance is inseparable from several interconnected factors. The analysis shows a significant relationship between 5M compliance with several factors:

Gender (p = 0.002): Men tend to comply with health protocols than women.
Age (p = 0.022): Older workers show a better level of compliance.
Education Level (P = 0.004): Higher education is directly proportional to compliance with 5M.
Knowledge (p = 0.001): Workers with good knowledge tend to be more obedient.
Attitude (p = 0.023): A positive attitude towards the health protocol becomes an important determinant in compliance.

Recommendations

Based on these findings, it is very important for PTPN III Sarang Giting Kebun to continue to conduct periodic education related to COVID-19 prevention. In addition, the company is also advised to give a clear appeal before starting work, so that workers always remember to comply with health protocols such as wearing masks, washing hands with soap, keeping distances, avoiding crowds, and limiting unimportant mobility. Increasing awareness and better understanding of the importance of health protocols will help create a safer work environment and prevent the spread of COVID-19 at PTPN III Kebun Giting Sarang.

In conclusion, this study highlights the importance of understanding the factors related to 5M compliance among workers at PTPN III Kebun Sarang Giting. The findings suggest that demographic characteristics, knowledge, attitudes, and predisposition factors play a crucial role in determining compliance. By doing so, the company can create a safer work environment and prevent the spread of COVID-19.
