Introduction

In recent years, the development of sensors for detecting hazardous substances has become increasingly important in various fields, including the food and health industry. One of the key challenges in sensor development is the creation of sensors that can accurately detect low concentrations of substances, such as acetone. In this study, we aim to improve the properties of sensing chitosan films against acetone through cross bonds with sodium tripoliphosphate (TPP). This process involves preparing a cross-bound solution with a variation of the TPP sodium concentration of 0.1%, 0.5%, 1%, and 1.5% W/V, and then fabricating the sensor in the form of a film using the electrodeposition method.

Methodology

To evaluate the performance of the sensor, both types of sensors - pure and chitosan are cross-bound - are placed in an environment with a varied acetone concentration, namely 5, 10, 50, 100, and 200 ppm. The test results show that cross-tied chitosan sensors with sodium tripoliphosphate produce a higher output voltage than pure chitosan sensors. Specifically, the cross-tied crossing sensor output voltage exceeds 0.3 V for acetone concentration of 5 ppm and 0.5 V for a concentration of 200 ppm, while the maximum output voltage of pure chitosan is recorded below 0.3 V and 0.45 V for concentration the same one.

Results and Discussion

The results of this study demonstrate that the cross-tied chitosan sensors with sodium tripoliphosphate show improved performance in terms of output voltage, reproducibility, and repeatability, as well as a long life span. This shows that this sensor can be relied upon for long-term use. With this improved characteristics, a cross-tied chitosan sensor with 1% sodium tripoliphosphate has the potential to be a more efficient alternative compared to conventional detection tools such as GC-MS (Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry) and DMS (Dynamically Modified Surfaces).

This method not only facilitates the making of sensors in a thin film form, but also allows the equitable distribution of active materials on the surface of the sensor. By improving the network structure of the film, the sensor becomes more responsive to changes in acetone concentration, which in turn increases accuracy in measurement.
