Introduction

The bamboo industry is a significant contributor to the economy of many cities, including Binjai City. Bamboo craftsmen play a crucial role in the production of various bamboo products, which are in high demand both locally and internationally. However, the income of bamboo craftsmen in Binjai City is influenced by several factors, including capital, labor, education level, and work experience. This study aims to examine the effect of these production factors on the income of bamboo craftsmen in Binjai City.

Methodology

This study used primary data obtained through the distribution of questionnaires to 75 respondents. The data was analyzed using the Econometrics method, specifically the Ordinary Least Square (OLS) approach. The model used to estimate the factors that influence the income of bamboo craftsmen in Binjai City was found to be very good, with a high R² value of 0.724. This indicates that the model is able to explain 72.4% of the variations in bamboo craftsmen income.

Results

The results of the analysis show that the model used to estimate the factors that influence the income of bamboo craftsmen in Binjai City is very good. This model is free from violating classic assumptions and is able to explain 72.4% of variations in bamboo craftsmen income (R² = 0.724). The remaining 27.6% variations of income, influenced by other factors outside the estimated model.

Based on simultaneous tests using F-Statistics, with a value of 38,994, it is proven that jointly working capital, level of education, work experience, and labor significantly influences the income of bamboo craftsmen. However, further analysis through partial test (T-Statistic test) shows that only three factors have a significant effect on bamboo craftsmen income, namely:

Working capital: The higher the capital owned by the craftsmen, the higher the income. This shows that access to capital is a key factor in increasing the income of bamboo craftsmen.
Work experience: The longer the work experience of the craftsmen, the higher the income. Work experience allows craftsmen to improve skills and efficiency in the production process, which ultimately has a positive impact on income.
Labor: The more workers used, the higher the craftsmen income. Increasing the number of labor allows craftsmen to produce more products, thereby increasing income.

These results indicate that the level of education has no significant influence on the income of bamboo craftsmen in the city of Binjai. This may be caused by several factors, such as:

Practical skills: Jobs as bamboo craftsmen emphasize more on practical skills and field experience than formal education.
Lack of educational opportunities: Access to quality education may be limited to some craftsmen, so that education is not a determining factor in increasing income.

This study provides an important picture of the factors that influence the income of bamboo craftsmen in the city of Binjai. These results can be used as a basis for the government and stakeholders to formulate bamboo craftsman development strategies, such as:

By taking into account the factors that significantly influence the income of bamboo craftsmen, it is hoped that the business of bamboo craftsmen in Binjai City can develop rapidly, improve the welfare of craftsmen, and contribute to regional economic progress.
