Analysis of Marketing and Prospects of the Tapioca and Opak Industry (Case Study: Deli Serdang and Serdang Bedagai Regencies)

Introduction

The tapioca and opaque industries in Deli Serdang and Serdang Bedagai districts have shown significant potential in increasing employer income. Good product quality, accompanied by marketing channel efficiency, is the key to achieving maximum profits. This study aims to analyze various aspects of marketing, including marketing channels, functions involved, costs and marketing margins, price spreads, and share margins for each channel. In addition, this research also evaluates the effect of these aspects of labor absorption, capital, equipment, and raw materials.

Research Methodology

The research location is determined by the purposive method, based on existing data and sampling is carried out by the census method. There are 5 tapioca flour processing business units and 26 opak business units that are the object of research. The data obtained is then analyzed descriptively and tabulatively to get a clear picture of existing conditions.

Analysis of Tapioca Flour Marketing

The results of the analysis showed that there were two marketing channels found for tapioca flour. The highest marketing cost was found in the marketing channel II of Rp 61/kg, while the marketing channel I offers the lowest cost of Rp 48/kg. In addition, marketing margins also show a striking difference, where channel II has the highest margin of Rp 1300/kg, while channel I only shows a margin of Rp 500/kg. Thus, the marketing channel I is expressed as the most efficient channel with the effectiveness of marketing (EP) of 25.61%. This is due to the low marketing costs and distribution channels that are faster than other channels.

The need for raw materials for tapioca flour processing business can be met from existing supplies, and labor is also always available. The aspect of capital and equipment is not a significant problem in this business, which shows that the tapioca flour processing business has a strong enough foundation to develop.

Analysis of Opak Marketing

Meanwhile, the analysis of opak marketing also revealed the existence of two marketing channels. The highest opaque marketing costs are found in channel II of Rp 114/kg and the lowest in channel I amounted to Rp 87/kg. Marketing margins for opaque show close results, where channel I gets the highest margin of Rp 305/kg, and channel II only has a margin of Rp 301/kg. Channel I is also considered the most efficient with the effectiveness of marketing (EP) of 8.78%.

Regarding the needs of raw materials, opaque processing businesses are able to take advantage of the available supply. Workers are also always reliable, although opaque processing businesses require additional capital to develop better businesses and equipment to improve the efficiency of the production process.

Conclusion

Overall, tapioca and opaque industries in Deli Serdang and Serdang Bedagai districts have bright prospects. However, to optimize this potential, entrepreneurs need to pay attention to the efficiency of marketing channels, improve product quality, and overcome challenges related to capital and equipment. With the right attention and effort, this sector can make a greater contribution to the regional economy and create more jobs.
