Abstract

The increasing popularity of online banking has led to a growing interest in understanding the factors that influence its adoption. This study aims to investigate the effect of ease of use, benefits, comfort, and security on the interest in using online banking among undergraduate students of the Faculty of Economics and Business, University of North Sumatra. Using the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) as a theoretical framework, this study seeks to provide a deeper insight into how these factors affect a person's decision to use online banking services.

Introduction

The rapid growth of online banking has transformed the way people manage their finances. With the increasing availability of internet and mobile banking services, more and more people are turning to online banking as a convenient and efficient way to conduct financial transactions. However, despite its growing popularity, online banking still faces challenges in terms of adoption and usage. One of the key factors that influence the adoption of online banking is the ease of use, benefits, comfort, and security of the service.

Research Methods

This study employed a quantitative approach to investigate the effect of ease of use, benefits, comfort, and security on the interest in using online banking among undergraduate students of the Faculty of Economics and Business, University of North Sumatra. A total of 97 students who had conducted online banking transactions were involved in the study. The data collected was then processed using Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) software to get accurate analysis results.

Analysis of Factors Affecting the Interests of Online Banking Use

Ease of Use: This factor plays an important role in encouraging users to access banking services. If the platform used is easy to understand and operate, users tend to be interested in using the service. The ease of use of online banking services is influenced by the user interface, navigation, and overall design of the website or mobile app. A user-friendly interface can make it easier for users to navigate and find the information they need, thereby increasing their interest in using online banking services.
Benefits: The benefits refer to the extent to which the use of online banking is considered to benefit the user. If students feel that the service helps them in managing and conducting financial transactions efficiently, it is likely that they will more often use online banks. The benefits of online banking include convenience, speed, and cost savings. Online banking allows users to access their accounts and conduct transactions at any time and from any location, making it a convenient option for those who value their time.
Security: In the current digital era, security aspects are increasingly important. Students who feel that their data and transactions are safe when using online banking will be more likely to make positive decisions in using these services. The security of online banking services is influenced by the use of encryption, firewalls, and other security measures to protect user data and prevent unauthorized access.
Comfort: This factor refers to the extent to which the use of online banking is considered comfortable for the user. If students feel more comfortable using conventional banking even though using online banking technically simpler, it may be caused by their perceptions of comfort that are not in harmony with reality. For example, they may feel more comfortable using conventional banking because they are familiar with the physical environment and the human interaction involved in traditional banking.

The findings of this study are very relevant for the management and analyst of online banking systems. It is essential for them to pay attention to aspects of ease of use, benefits, and security of the services they offer. In an effort to optimize user experience, they need to improve the user interface, provide clear information about service benefits, and ensure optimal data protection. By doing so, they can increase the interest in using online banking services among students and the wider community.

Conclusion

This study provides a deeper insight into the factors that influence the adoption of online banking services among undergraduate students of the Faculty of Economics and Business, University of North Sumatra. The findings of this study suggest that ease of use, benefits, and security are the key factors that influence the interest in using online banking services. The comfort factor, on the other hand, does not show a positive effect on student decisions to use online banking. The implications of this study are relevant for online banking management and analyst, who need to pay attention to these factors to optimize user experience and increase the adoption of online banking services.

This study opens up opportunities for further research to understand more about the influence of other factors that might also influence the decision to use online banking among students and the wider community. Some potential areas for future research include:
