The banking sector in Indonesia has undergone significant changes in recent years, driven by the increasing adoption of financial technology (fintech) and the concept of "branchless banking." This study examines the effect of the application of fintech and branchless banking on the financial performance of banking companies listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange. The focus of the analysis includes several financial ratios, namely Capital Adequacy Ratio (CAR), Net Profit Margin (NPM), Return On Equity (ROE), Operating Costs to Operating Income (BOPO), and Loan to Deposit Ratio (LDR).
Background and Literature Review
The banking sector in Indonesia has faced intense competition in recent years, driven by the increasing adoption of fintech and digital banking. Fintech has enabled banks to improve their operational efficiency, reduce costs, and increase their profitability. Branchless banking, on the other hand, has provided financial access to people in remote areas that are not served by conventional bank branches. This has the potential to increase the number of customers and transaction volumes, which have a positive impact on the financial performance of banks.
Methodology
This study uses data on the financial statements of banking companies listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange during the 2014-2021 period. The research population includes 15 banking companies that have implemented fintech and branchless banking. Sampling techniques using purposive sampling, so that 9 companies are obtained as research samples. Data analysis was carried out using the paired sample t-test statistical test for normal distribution data, and the Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test test for non-normally distributed data.
Results
The results showed that there were significant differences in the ratio of CAR, NPM, BOPO, and ROE before and after the application of fintech and branchless banking. This indicates that the application of fintech and branchless banking has a positive impact on the financial performance of banking companies, especially in terms of efficiency and profitability.
