Introduction

Background

Methodology

This study was conducted in Mbaruai Village from January to April 2005. The research methods used in this study include literature studies, data collection related to land use, land surveys, and field data collection. Field data collection was done by drilling soil at a slope level of 3-8% and 8-15%, as well as making soil profiles to obtain soil physical and chemical data. The soil sample taken was then analyzed in the laboratory.

Results

The results of this study showed that the land suitability class in Mbaruai Village at a slope level of 3-8% slope was classified as very suitable for the cultivation of cocoa plants. This is because the low slope slope provides benefits in the form of good drainage, adequate water availability, and high slope stability, which supports the growth of cocoa plants that require moist soil conditions and good aeration.

On the other hand, the land at a slope level of 8-15% was classified as according to the availability of nutrition. This is because the steeper slope can increase the risk of erosion, which can lead to soil degradation and reduced fertility. However, the land at this slope level has a fairly good availability of nutrition, which can support the growth of cocoa plants if proper soil conservation efforts are made.

This study shows that the slope class has a significant effect on the suitability of the land for cocoa plants in Mbaruai Village. Right land use based on slope levels can increase the productivity of cocoa plants and the sustainability of aquaculture. Therefore, it is essential to consider the slope class when evaluating the suitability of land for cocoa cultivation.
